The latest kart racer to challenge Mario's crown has arrived but does Disney Speedstorm split screen hit the way players hope?
Multiplayer is a key aspect to these super-casual kart racers, with couch co-op a huge part of their appeal as party games.
Readers will be pleased to hear that Disney Speedstorm does have split-screen, but unfortunately, it isn't as straightforward as you might hope. Let's get into it.
Disney Speedstorm split-screen
Fans of combat kart racers will be glad to hear that Disney Speedstorm does in fact have split-screen as an option, however there are a few caveats to this.
On PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, split-screen is limited to just two players. This is a disappointment, as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe can do four players on Switch.
However, the PS5, Xbox Series X | S, and PC players can enjoy four-player split-screen, so they won't be missing out on the full experience.
Split screen options can be used on every game mode in Disney Speedstorm, from local play to online. When playing locally users can pick out their favourite Disney Speedstorm characters and customise them however they like.
Disney Speedstorm Online
Speedstorm has a robust online presence, so you can still go racing against friends there, with full crossplay available to bring everyone together.
The game is free-to-play on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S too, meaning everyone should be able to get involved! There are in-game microtransactions available, but this is optional.
Of course, the limitations to split-screen are going to be a problem for many, and likely it will be the younger players that miss out here.
Speedstorm is aimed at young players, who are often playing on second-hand or hand-me-down consoles that are from a previous generation. The inability to do full four-player split-screen on those consoles could end up really hurting the game.
