2024 brings the announcement of a brand new DLC coming to Euro Truck Simulator 2. Taking you deep into Scandinavia, Nordic Horizons will show off the stunning locations of Northern Europe.

Let’s take a look at what’s coming to Euro Truck Simulator 2 in the Nordic Horizons DLC.
Land of the Vikings
From the fjords of Norway to the bitterly cold Arctic Ocean, Nordic Horizons leads truckers right into the heart of Viking history. The new map adds dozens of cities, towns, and villages to the game for players to explore, with a stunning landscape as the backdrop.
Breathtaking bridges and plunging underwater tunnels help you traverse the landscape, while traditional Nordic architecture lines the roads to add a touch of authenticity as you pass through with your next delivery.
The incredible scenery can present a challenge, however, with narrow roads making wide loads difficult to transport. This combined with ascending and descending the mountainous terrain will test even the most experienced truckers. At least you can admire the reindeer grazing beside the road as you cruise past!
A Scandinavian adventure
Despite the name, it’s not just Norway that’s featured in the Nordic Horizons DLC. Finland and Sweden are also included, creating a true Scandinavian adventure.
The coniferous forests of Lapland in Finland also provide tricky terrain to traverse, while the trunk E4 route cuts through Sweden taking you to the Norweigan border without issue. The full map will contain a mix of landscapes to view out of the truck window, from serene fishing villages to mining communities and other industries to collect cargo.
SCS Software has billed Nordic Horizons as a major map expansion to the game, with the addition of northern Scandinavia representing a huge addition. Along with the already announced Greece DLC, it seems as though the studio is still committed to the game despite it reaching its twelfth anniversary in 2024.
A long wait
For truckers revving their rigs with excitement ready to take on Scandinavia, we do have some bad news for you. In their announcement blog, SCS has stated that the DLC may not be ready for quite some time.
With the amount of work going into the game currently, and the fact the SCS team is still pretty small in comparison to other studios, it was expected that Nordic Horizons could take a while to launch.
In a blog post, SCS has revealed that the wait could be up to two years: "There is still a very long road ahead of us and it may take about two years before we can release this DLC," SCS wrote. This means players may have to wait until 2026 to hit the Viking trail.

Despite the long wait ahead, players can already add the Nordic Horizons DLC to their wishlist on Steam. Considering the amount of new content coming to the game, we’re happy to pull into the nearest layby and wait with anticipation for the next Euro Truck Simulator 2 DLC.
