Hot Wheels Unleashed Tips & Tricks: Drifting, Boosts, Cornering, vehicles, & more!

Hot Wheels Unleashed is going to take the arcade racing scene by storm, and we can't wait for you to try it.

Having had a week to get to grips with the game and its various nuances, we thought we'd put together this tips and tricks guide to help get you started.

So, let's take a look at these now, and have you winning races in no time!

Time your drifts

The first piece of advice we have for you is to master your drifting skills. Throughout Hot Wheels Unleashed, you'll need to be using this game mechanic to your advantage.

The first part of the drift is to simply tap the brake button. This will initiate it and have you sliding into the (hopefully) fast-approaching corner.

Now, be sure to start this drift slightly earlier than you would in other titles. It can take a while for the sideways motion to send you round the corner, and if you start too late, you'll end up smashing into the barrier.

This is the easiest way to lose speed in Hot Wheels Unleashed. Carrying that momentum from corner to corner is the main goal.

Grab the boosts

Boosts are your friends. In fact, in this game, they're probably your best friends.

You'll want to make sure you're travelling over as many of the floor boosts as possible, and, if you're drifting correctly, you'll have plenty of personal boost to use.

This boost is easy enough to earn, and you'll find that the bar is frequently full. Be sure to hit that boost as often as you can, however, save some for the event of a crash or collision with the wall.

Vehicle choice

Naturally, the many vehicles in the game all have different statistics. One of the main differences is bar boosts versus single-use boosts.

This will depend on the driving style of the user. We tend to prefer the bar boosts, as it always gives us a little bit of boost to rely on for incidents.

Likewise, the main difference you'll see is a car's ability to corner versus its top speed. We always prefer top speed and acceleration over cornering ability, as once you've mastered drifting, there's not a big need for high-cornering ability.
