Is Ride 5 cross-platform? That's what a lot of players of Milestone's racing simulator will be wondering.
Ride 5 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S and Windows PC via the Steam Store, but can players on different console systems be in the same lobbies as each other?
We've got everything you need to know about cross-platform play on Ride 5 right here!
Is Ride 5 cross-platform?
Ride 5 is available on three systems but is cross-play available between them? Many games such as the official Formula 1 game and Forza Horizon 5 have crossplay enabled, but this is something that has passed Milestone games by.
There are no Milestone-developed games that have crossplay, and unfortunately, Ride 5 falls into that camp.
It's a shame, but Ride 5 has made many strides over Ride 4, especially in terms of its single player modes. The game is a lot of fun, but crossplay isn't something that it has right now.
So, if you're a PS5 players and your friends are on Xbox, you won't be able to play with them in Ride 5.
Could Crossplay be added?
So, could cross-platform play be added post-launch for Ride 5? Well, it wouldn't be unheard of, as some games such as F1 22 added it post-launch.
It would be a surprise though, as large post-launch updates isn't something that Milestone usually do. Milestone makes great bike games, and it's hard to argue that they aren't the best at making two-wheeled racing video games.
However, Milestone are a relatively small studio, especially considering the size of some of the series they have yearly releases for, such as the MotoGP series.
Saying that though, Ride 4 was given a next-gen upgrade post-launch. Ride 4 was released on Xbox One and PS4 in 2020 and received a next-gen port to PS5 and Series X | S in 2021.
Crossplay could give Ride 5 a second wind, as online multiplayer would gain triple the potential player overnight.
So, there is a possibility, however slim, that cross-platform play could get added to Ride 5 next year.
Ride 5 has been out for a little while now and we're impressed with it. The launch trailer is thrilling and gives you a great idea of what to expect when you get the game.
