Although we still haven't had official confirmation from EA and Criterion Games, last week EA insider Tom Henderson claimed EA will reveal Need for Speed 2022 (allegedly called Need for Speed Unbound) “within the next two weeks.”

We may not have to wait long, however, because EA is expected to finally reveal the new NFS (allegedly called Need for Speed Unbound) this week.

EA expected to reveal Need for Speed 2022 this week

Speaking on GiantBomb’s Game Mess Mornings podcast last week, Jeff Grubb said Need for Speed Unbound “is supposed to get announced here next week and then it should still be coming out next week, so December.”

Referring to the divisive art style we’ve seen in a recently leaked gameplay video, he added that NFS 2022 will be an “interesting sideways move” for the series with an “animated style on top of the realistic looking cars.”

For example, “squiggly lines will mount off the car” when you hit a wall according to Grubb. Henderson also claims that fire and smoke effects will also appear from the car when you drift, jump, and crash.

An exact date for the reveal is still unknown, though Henderson said it's expected in "early October."

What can we expect from the Need for Speed 2022 reveal?

According to Henderson, Need for Speed Unbound will be revealed in a trailer lasting around 90 seconds with a soundtrack featuring American rapper A$AP Rocky.

It will reportedly be current-gen only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a release date reportedly set for 2 December – less than two months after the expected reveal.

After months of leaks and rumours, we can’t wait to finally see how Criterion Games will reinvigorate the long-running Need for Speed series. Keep an eye out on EA’s official social media channels because we could see some teaser images or video clips to generate excitement before the official reveal.
