Need for Speed Unbound will be coming to PS5 later this year. The latest NFS title is a next-gen exclusive though, so PS4 gamers will need to upgrade their systems to play the newest Need for Speed.

Here's everything you need to know about Unbound on the PS5!

Need for Speed Unbound PS5

Need for Speed will be getting the next-gen treatment for the first time in December. Unbound will be released on PlayStation 5, the first entry on the next-gen consoles, as 2019's Heat was released before the PS5.

In a PlayStation Blog post, Sony confirmed NFS Unbound will run at 4k resolution and a silky-smooth 60fps frame rate on PS5. A 60Hz simulation rate will also bring "more responsive visuals and handling."

Since Unbound is a next-gen exclusive as well, the graphics and overall presentation will be amazing. Utilising the PS5’s CPU will allow for a higher density of traffic and pedestrians in Lakeshore City as well as a "more in-depth handling model."

DualSense support delivers immersive haptic feedback

Another benefit the PS5 version will bring is DualSense support. As detailed on PlayStation Blog, the DualSense technology will allow you to feel every bump of the road, crash impacts, and tyres gripping the road through the controller.

Further adding to the immersion will be 3D audio. Thanks to a rich audio experience, you'll hear the "roar of the engine bounce back off the walls of the city’s tallest buildings.

The beginning of the end for PS4?

Despite being released over two years ago, triple A titles were still being released on the old-gen consoles. This was down to numbers, as the PS4 has sold over 100 million units by the time the PS5 was launched.

The gap between the consoles was huge, despite the PS5 being the fastest-selling console in history. Thanks to supply delays as well, the PS5's sales were hampered.

However, these shortages are largely over now and there are over 20 million PS5's out there. EA have recognised this and made Unbound an exclusive for the next-gen systems.

To our knowledge, this is the first time this has happened and could signal that all games from 2023 onwards will miss old-gen. This should improve the overall experience as well, as the games will be custom-made for next-gen systems and not held back by the limitations of the PS4.
