Rocket League is arguably one of the most addictive online multiplayer games ever made. With the Lucky Lanterns event likely to return early this year and Season Six expected to land soon, there are plenty of reasons to keep playing Rocket League this year.
Psyonix’s phenomenally popular car football game is on a range of platforms including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. But is Rocket League a free download?
Is Rocket League a free download?
One of the reasons why Rocket League is still so popular is that it’s free-to-play across all platforms. But it wasn’t always a free download.
When it launched in July 2015 on PS4, Rocket League was a free PlayStation Plus game. This was a smart move as it introduced millions of players to Rocket League, and it’s been a staple of online multiplayer ever since.
After July 2015, Rocket League cost £15.99 on the PlayStation store. It was then ported to PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
However, as of September 2020, Rocket League is free-to-play on all platforms following the acquisition of Psyonix by Epic Games.
How do I download Rocket League for free?
Rocket League can be downloaded for free by visiting the PlayStation Store, Xbox Games Store, Nintendo eShop, and Epic Games Store depending on your platform. A mobile spin-off called Rocket League Sideswipe is also free-to-play.
Credits
While Rocket League is free to download, you can also buy in-game Credits. Available bundles range from 500 Credits (£3.75) to 6500 Credits (£37.50). These credits can be used to buy cosmetic items in the Item Shop such as wheels, decals, and rocket boosts.
If you’re new to Rocket League, a range of add-on packs are available to buy to help get you started including the Takumi Pack and Aftershock Starter Pack. Available to buy on digital stores and the Rocket League Item Shop, these packs include extra content such as car bodies, wheels, decals, boosts, trails, and credits.
