Asphalt Legends Unite has been officially announced by developers Gameloft. Asphalt 9 is a very popular arcade racer and the series has made the leap from mobile to PC, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
Asphalt Legends Unite will take the series a step further, with the series making its PlayStation debut on both the PS4 and PS5 later this year.
The developers have revealed a lot of information, including whether your save files can be carried over from Asphalt 9 and Legends Unite's release date. Here's everything you need to know!
Asphalt Legends Unite
Asphalt 9: Legends is an iconic arcade racer that has been out for a long time, originally released in 2018.
Since then, it's been ported to Nintendo Switch 2019, Xbox One and Series X|S in 2021 and PC in 2022. Apart from a couple of handheld entries on PSP and PS Vita, the series has never come to PlayStation. That will change later this year.
Asphalt Legends Unite is an expansion for Asphalt 9 rather than a new game. This is no ordinary expansion, though, as there's a huge amount that Gameloft is bringing to the table. It's essentially a relaunch of Asphalt 9.
Asphalt Legends Unite will introduce a new graphics engine, music and sound, a modernised art direction better suited to the console versions of the game and a revamped user interface.
Post-launch, social features and customisation options for the cars will be added.
Will My Asphalt 9 Progress Carry Over?
A new garage will allow players to carry over game progress and previously unlocked vehicles from Asphalt 9. The garage also has a new, higher-level cap.
So, if you're already a veteran of Asphalt 9, you don't need to worry about the expansion making you start from scratch again.
Although not confirmed, it's safe to assume that Asphalt 9 and by extension Legends Unite will remain free-to-play with in-game purchases.
Crossplay
Crossplay has been highly requested for the Asphalt series. For the first time in the series, Asphalt Legends Unite will support crossplay across PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobiles.
Legends Unite New Content
Gameloft has remained tight-lipped about the specifics of new content, but there are some things we've seen confirmed in the teaser trailer and elsewhere.
A new online game mode called "Pursuit Mode" will see five "Security" players attempt to hunt down three "Syndicate" players in a take on cops and robbers.
Gameloft has also confirmed new circuits will be based in the tropical city state of Singapore. This will be a nighttime circuit within an amusement park, so we're interested to see what's in store for us here.
The Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 featured heavily in the trailer isn't a new car though, as that's already in Asphalt 9.
Asphalt Legends Unite Release Date
Asphalt Legends Unite will be released on 17 July 2024, so mark your calendars!
Asphalt Legends Unite will launch worldwide on mobile devices via the Google Play and Apple App Store and PC via the Steam and Microsoft Stores.
On the consoles, Asphalt Legends Unite will be available to download on PS4 and PS5 via the PlayStation Store, Xbox Series X | S & One via the Microsoft Store and Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo Store.
You'll be able to cross-save your progress across multiple devices for Asphalt Legends Unite, but the PS4, PS5 and Switch versions won't support this feature.
Supercharged Edition
A physical version will be available on PS5 and Nintendo Switch only. Dubbed the Supercharged Edition, this deluxe version of Asphalt Legends Unite unlocks five hypercars:
- Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 at 3 stars
- Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
- McLaren 765LT
- W Motors Lykan Hypersport
- Porsche Taycan Turbo S
In addition, the Supercharged Edition will give you a head start with 5,000 tokens and 5 million credits to spend.
