With the announcement of the next Assetto Corsa title, many are wondering how they will be able to play the game.
Following the success of the first iteration, and Assetto Corsa Competizione afterwards, a third game was inevitable from 505 Games and Kunos Simulazioni.
So, is Assetto Corsa 2 coming to PC? And if so, when can we expect to play it? Let's take a look right now!
Latest news: Assetto Corsa 2 "is not just a sequel," says Kunos Simulazioni
While Assetto Corsa 2 has yet to be unveiled, Kunos Simulazioni is setting player expectations high for the sequel, hinting that it's "not just a sequel."
“The new Assetto Corsa is going to follow what we did with Assetto Corsa ‘1,’” Kunos Simulazioni’s executive manager, Marco Massarutto, said in a recent interview.
While he didn’t reveal any further details, he teased that “it is not just a sequel, it is much, much, more. It’s definitely not a spin-off like Competizione.”
Assetto Corsa 2
The sequel to Assetto Corsa is due to arrive in Summer 2024. This is five years since the launch of Assetto Corsa Competizione back in 2019 on PC and 2020 on console.
We're expecting AC2 to be fully optimised for current-gen consoles, with the game rumoured to be using an updated version of Assetto Corsa's game engine.
So will Assetto Corsa 2 be coming to PC?
The PC release
So, with the title inevitably arriving on all platforms eventually, much like AC and ACC, when can we expect to see the game arrive on PC?
The game is currently penned in for a Summer 2024 launch, with Kunos Simulazioni having over three years to create the sequel to Assetto Corsa.
Considering the history of the series, it's not looking likely that the console port of AC2 will launch at the same time as PC. So how long will console players have to wait?
The console port
A recent financial report from Digital Bros (the parent company of developer Kunos Simulazioni) has confirmed that Assetto Corsa 2 will get a console port in the "long term." However, console players shouldn't get too excited just yet.
We haven't been given an exact date yet for the console port of the game, but considering the track record of the Assetto Corsa series it could be a long wait. Assetto Corsa arrived on console two years after the PC version, with Assetto Corsa Competizione launching on console a year after PC.
This could mean anything between 12-24 months for players to wait before AC2 comes to console. We're anticipating Assetto Corsa 2 to come to consoles sometime in 2025. Considering 40% of Assetto Corsa's sales were on console, it should be sooner rather than later for AC2 on console.
