With less than one month until the release of F1 Manager 2022, Frontier Developments has released a new behind-the-scenes video, this time focusing on Frontier is making the game sound as real as possible.
Capturing the sounds of the track
F1 Manager 2022 aims to be the most authentic motorsport management game ever, immersing you into the world of F1. Every official driver and circuit in the 2022 F1 season is represented and the managerial options are extensive. This level of detail also applies to the audio design.
As the latest behind-the-scenes video showcases, Frontier has gone to great lengths to capture the sounds of the track as realistically as possible, with accurate engine sounds, cheering crowds, real-life team radio audio, and authentic commentary from David Croft and Karun Chandhok.
Frontier has programmed the audio code to different audio assets depending on the type of corner, how fast the car is going, and weather effects. Switching to the onboard view makes the engine sound more aggressive.
There are subtle effects too: you can hear the suspension rattle as the car speeds up. Even the crowd audio changes dynamically, reacting to what happens in the race whether it's a brave overtake or a dramatic accident.
Radio conversations between race engineers and drivers are taken from real recordings, adding to the authenticity. Frontier was sent around 25,000 lines of dialogue to recreate these radio conversations, which are triggered by events in the race. For example, your race engineer or driver will react and make callouts in response to strategy changes.
You’ll also hear the recognisable voices of David Croft and Karun Chandhok, who recorded thousands of lines of unique commentary based on scenarios in the game. This all combines to make F1 Manager 2022 sound exactly like an F1 race TV broadcast.
