CarX Drift Racing 3 is in development by CarX Technologies. The sequel to the successful CarX Drift Racing and CarX Drift Racing 2 is on the way!
We're so hyped that this game is on the way, as Drift Racing 2 was released over five years ago on mobile devices. With CarX Street being out for a while now, it's good to know another new game is inbound.
So, what do we know about CarX Drift Racing 3 and when can we expect it to be out? We've got everything you need to know right here!
CarX Drift Racing 3
CarX Tech announced CarX Drift Racing 3 was in development back in October 2023. The last two CarX Drift Racing games are some of the most fun and impressive arcade racing games in the market.
CarX Drift combines fun, simple and addictive gameplay with good graphics, sound and a healthy amount of content to create an impressive title that you just can't put down.
While you can compete against your friends online, there are also options to take on the AI in single-player mode. This will consist of events such as time attack and quests to compete in.
The single-player campaign will be divided into different decades, with cars from the 1980s to the 2020s on show, with the famed Top-32 tournaments making a popular return.
So, it's fair to say that we're very happy to hear that a new CarX Drift Racing video game is on the way. Thanks to CarX Tech's regular posts and videos, there's already a lot we know about this one!
Gameplay
The aim of the game is in the name: drifting is the way to win. Speed is not the main weapon in your arsenal, you'll instead need to get your car sideways with as much style and finesse as possible.
Doing so will earn you points and the longer you manage to do this, the higher you'll score. Points mean prizes and trophies as well, so the better you do, the more you'll unlock.
When things don't go to plan, though, you'll need to be careful to avoid the walls, or else your car will suffer damage. For the first time in the CarX Drift series, damage is in the game.
The below demo showed us what to expect as well, and it's extensive since there are no licensed cars:
Obviously, making contact with the wall is bad from a points collection perspective, but will there be other consequences?
It won't be possible for you to total your car like in Wreckfest or Burnout 3: Takedown, but you can do a lot of damage to your wallet. You'll need to repair the damage that is caused by both collisions and general wear and tear.
We're really excited to see where CarX Tech go with this and there's plenty of time left in the development cycle for them to work on it.
CarX Drift Racing 3 Locations
Now, let's delve into the locations you'll be drifting around. Most racing games have circuits or tracks to go around, but CarX Drift Racing uses "locations" as you're technically not racing in this title.
So far, we've had the following locations confirmed for CarX Drift Racing 3:
- Ebisu Complex, Japan
- Nürburgring, Germany
- Dominion Raceway, USA
- ADM Raceway, Russia
For those wanting to see an urban location like CarX Streets' map, that sadly won't be happening anytime soon.
However, there is a track creator mechanism in the game, so if the real-world locations aren't enough, you can create your own!
Some more good news though, is that there are plans for both weather conditions and time of day options. How cool will it be to try and keep control of your car when drifting in the rain or snow?
Cars & Customisation
Racing games would be nothing without the cars and CarX Drift Racing 3 is no exception. CarX Tech confirmed the first ten cars for CarX Drift Racing in the image below and there's a good selection here:
All of these cars will look, sound and feel brand new as well, as CarX Drift Racing 3 runs on a new gameplay engine. There will be a total of 30 cars when the game launches, with more being added later on.
CarX is also famed for its customisation options and there will be more than ever before, with the ability to tune and swap car parts such as the gearbox, engine and differential.
Even the interiors can be swapped along with other cosmetics such as wheel rims. If you haven't seen it yet, CarX Tech have shown off the customisation options in this video:
Every part of the car can be removed, painted, swapped and personalised to your liking. If you want to save weight, you can experiment by running your car with body parts removed.
This will be useful during practice, but if you're confident you can avoid the walls, this could make your car even more nimble than before.
Release date prediction
Unfortunately, we don't have a release date for CarX Drift Racing 3. However,r CarX Tech has said in its latest FAQ that an announcement is coming "this year."
So, just like CarX Street on PC, this likely means that CarX Drift Racing 3 will arrive later this year or in 2025.
Platforms
As for the systems it'll be released on, PC, console, and mobile versions are being developed simultaneously.
The mobile version will be released first, as it's a simpler version of Drift Racing 3, followed by the PC and console versions. It's not confirmed if the PC version will be released before PlayStation and Xbox.
On mobiles, CarX Drift Racing 3 will be free to play like the previous games. Pricing for the PC and console versions has yet to be confirmed.
