In a surprise announcement, CarX Highway Racing is coming to the Nintendo Switch! CarX Highway was released on both iOS and Android mobile devices last year, and is nwo getting its first console version.

CarX Technologies make some of the arcade racing games available, including CarX Drift Racing Online, CarX Drift Racing 2 and CarX Street.

Even though a PC port for Street and CarX Drift 3 are in development, CarX Tech has announced a new console version CarX Highway Racing.

CarX Highway Racing coming to Nintendo Switch

As a CarX game, there's a lot on offer. All of the features on mobile will be coming to Switch, including the cars' physics and handling models, story mode, and customisation options.

Some things that won't be ported over, though, are the fuel system and upgrade time boosters. Removing the fuel system should allow for a more streamlined and straightforward experience for new players.

In-game currency has removed for the Switch version, including all microtransactions.

Some players will see this as a good thing. However, it means that the game isn't free-to-play like the mobile version is.

Crossplay is confirmed for Highway as well, as the Switch version will have the same online multiplayer servers as the mobile versions.

CarX Highway Racing Switch Gameplay

The Nintendo Switch is a unique gaming console. It's technically both a home and mobile console, making it the only "hybrid" console on the market.

This means that CarX Highway Racing is coming to a console that can be hooked up to a TV for the first time. So, how will CarX Highway scale up its graphics to the new console?

From the screenshots we've seen so far, CarX Tech have done some good work here. The reflections on the cars, tyre smoke, tail lights and the textures on the tarmac look finely detailed.

The user interface has also been adapted for the Switch.

For those wondering about the specs available on the Switch, the original and Lite versions of the console can play games at up to 720p. The OLED version is also in 720p but with that OLED display.

When docked, the Switch can output games in up to 1080p when connected via HDMI.

Highway Racing Content

All of the mobile content will be coming to Switch and that includes the game's varied locations. You'll be able to race down the highways of Texas, Russia, Australia and France.

In the story mode, you'll need to fight against both the Winston's and Syndicate to advance through the campaign.

Over40 cars will available at launch with everything from tough 4x4's to rapid hypercars on offer if you have the money for them.

More conventional game modes like the story mode and time trial are in Highway Racing, but you can also play as the police and try to catch criminals in Police Mode.

Switch Release Date & Trailer

CarX Technologies has confirmed that the Switch version of CarX Highway Racing will launch on 14 March. It's currently available to pre-order on the Nintendo Store.

CarX Tech also uploaded a teaser trailer to mark this announcement. The trailer shows off the high-speed motorway action that we've come to love in the game:
