As we race into December, we were starting to wonder what’s going on with Disney Speedstorm.
Originally announced in February, the family-friendly kart racer was slated for a 2022 release date. But with no updates for several weeks, this looked increasingly unlikely.
And now developer Gameloft has confirmed what we suspected: Disney Speedstorm has been delayed to 2023.
Disney Speedstorm delayed
"We have been working diligently to craft an amazing racing experience for Disney Speedstorm, capturing our vision of the exciting magic fans enjoy in their favourite Disney and Pixar characters and games,” a post on the official Disney Speedstorm Twitter page reads.
“We want fans to not only be entertained, but to enjoy a fast-paced and competitive racing experience they will return to play for years to come," a post on the official Disney Speedstorm Twitter page reads.
"With this in mind and after careful consideration, we have decided to delay the worldwide release of Disney Speedstorm to meet our expectations and provide players with a more immersive racing experience, customisation offerings, game modes and more."
“Fans are invited to join us on the speedway when Disney Speedstorm launches in 2023 on PC and consoles.”
Gameloft went on to add it appreciates feedback from fans who participated in the beta earlier this year and social media followers.
Release date
Unfortunately, Disney Speedstorm still doesn’t have a firm release date. Gameloft says the free-to-play kart racer coming in 2023 but doesn’t provide a release window.
It could be delayed by a few months and release next spring or delayed longer until late 2023.
In the meantime, Gameloft promises to keep fans up to speed with the game’s development in the coming weeks.
Featuring an eclectic cast of playable Disney and Pixar characters from Donald Duck to Sulley from Monsters Inc, Disney Speedstorm will be released on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Crossplay multiplayer support is also confirmed for launch across.
