Forza Horizon 6 is scheduled for a May 19, 2026 launch on Xbox X|S and PC (via Steam and Xbox App). A PlayStation 5 version is confirmed to release later this year, but we have no definitive release date as of yet.

If you pre-order the $119.99 Premium Edition of the game, you can play Forza Horizon 6 early, starting May 15.

Only the standard edition of the game is available for Game Pass Ultimate players. That means those with the subscription will have to cough up the additional $59.99 for the 'Premium Upgrade' for early access and other bonuses.

Forza Horizon 6 takes place in a scaled-down version of Japan, featuring both natural and urban environments. It is said to be the most dense map in the series, full of verticality and diverse biomes.

Shibuya Crossing can be seen in the promotional materials, so we can expect some tightly packed city driving around Tokyo. The capital itself is described as "the largest ever urban area" for a Forza title, about five times larger than Forza Horizon 5’s Guanajuato.

For all its technical excellence, the map of FH5 felt a little anodyne at times. While there will be no scrambling pedestrians in Forza Horizon 6 either, not even in the world's busiest crossroads, cities packed with other details can give the map some sense of life.

Japan is pretty scenic as is, with plenty of long stretches, mountains, and colorful landmarks. Ginkgo Avenue is confirmed to be featured. Mt. Fuji was shown in the teaser, and Mt. Haruna has been mentioned. All this makes the setting about as visually varied as the previous ones.

One of the biggest takeaways from the early reveal of Forza Horizon 6 so far is the changes to progression. You'll kick things off as a tourist and will have to earn your way through the game.

Wristband progression returns, and that means you won't be able to buy a supercar hours into the game. If it works as it has in the past, there will be different Wristbands you earn as you play. New wristbands mean new events, cars to buy, and more content along those lines.

Playground Games also said there will be an exclusive Legend Island. The description for it reads, "Attain Horizon Legend status, and you’ll be invited to Legend Island, an exclusive space home to the greatest drivers, unique events, and the Legend Island Circuit. Legend Island is only accessible to Horizon Legends."

All of this does point towards a more meaningful and fairly paced progression. Outside of progression changes, expect the usual open-world busy work to be scattered around the map.

In terms of multiplayer modes, The Eliminator, Hide & Seek, and Time Attack Circuits are confirmed. Another neat returning feature is Car Meet, while Spec Racing Championships is a new addition.
