A new expedition
Expeditions: A MudRunner Game takes everything great about the Runner series and dials it up to 11. Returning to a wilderness full of arid deserts, steep mountains, and rugged forests, Expeditions sees you take the role of the lead driver of scientific expeditions.
Set across three distinct maps, Colorado, Arizona, and the Carpathian Mountains of Central Europe, Expeditions once again present the problem-solving nature of its predecessors. From scouting out potential routes to rescuing stranded vehicles, it's up to you to keep the expedition rolling.
It’s up to you to build and maintain your base of operations, equip your fleet of all-terrain vehicles with the high-tech tools needed to traverse the landscape, and then lead the research missions off into the unknown.
The new reconnaissance drone can be used to scour the route ahead for both a passable passage, as well as for spotting any valuable caches that can be claimed along the way. When negotiating waterways, echo-sounding scanners can be used to probe the depth of the water, keeping you and your critical equipment as dry as possible.
Resources earned during endeavours can be spent at your camp, building new structures or hiring experts to enhance your future expeditions. Don’t get too ambitious with your manoeuvres out in the field, however, as one wrong move could see you end up on your roof.
Platforms
Expeditions: A MudRunner Game will launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and the Epic Store.
Pre-orders for the game are now open for all platforms except the Switch, so players can grab the game now before hitting the expedition in March. The Switch preorders will be opening soon.
PC system requirements
The PC system requirements have now been revealed for Expeditions: A MudRunner Game, and they're just as demanding as the game itself.
With challenging terrain, a full day-night cycle, and a truly dynamic weather system, the game would be taxing for any PC, and that's reflected in the system requirements.
You'll definitely need an expedition to the nearest PC store before tackling the first scientific expedition!
Editions
Three editions of Expeditions: A MudRunner Game will be available at launch. The Standard Edition will be just that, while the Year 1 and Supreme Editions of the game come with additional perks.
Preordering the Standard Edition will reward players with the Great Don 71 – a special cosmetic for the Don 71 SUV, while the Year 1 comes with this plus The Year 1 Content Pass and the Cotco Canyon truck and the Supreme Edition comes with all that plus the Pioneer Pack.
Alongside the Year 1 Pass bringing four seasons of extra content, both the Year 1 and Supreme Editions also feature the 96-hour early access window, so for players looking to hit the ground running, these are the ones for you.
Multiplayer
Despite now knowing a lot about Expeditions: A Mud Runner Game, we'd heard very little about whether the game would feature multiplayer. That question has now been answered, however.
In a post on the Focus Forum, the community manager of Expeditions: A Mud Runner Game has confirmed that the game will not only feature multiplayer but that it will be implemented as a co-op feature.
Before fans get too excited though, it's important to note that the post also stated that multiplayer will be a post-launch feature to the game. It seems as though multiplayer won't be added until 'a few months' after release in order to make it as functional as possible.
So multiplayer will be coming to Expeditions: A Mud Runner Game, but we'll have to wait a little bit longer to play it! The post also hinted at more post-launch features in the works, but we have to wait to see what those are too.
Release date
Although announced back in August, we’ve had to wait until early December for Expeditions: A MudRunner Game to get a release date. Players will be relieved to know that we don’t have to wait too long to get our hands on the game.
Expeditions: A MudRunner Game will launch on 5 March 2024, meaning we are now less than three months away from release. This is great news for those who can’t wait to get their hands on the next entry in the Runner series.
However, the release times vary for different platforms. Players who preorder the Year 1 and Supreme Editions will get early access on 29 February on PC and 1 March on consoles.
Watch the full release date trailer below:
A 96-hour early access window is available for players who preorder both the Supreme and Year 1 Editions of the game, so there’s an opportunity to get hands-on even sooner.
