The various assists on F1 2020 help make the game far more accessible for beginners.
But which settings should you change once you’ve mastered the basics?
In this article, we’ll go over how to remove traction control from your assists, and how to master driving without it!
How do I remove traction control?
Similar to automatic gears, you can remove traction control in the assists tab of the settings page.
Once turned off in settings, you will no longer have traction control enabled as an assist in game, so be careful!
Throttle without traction control
Using throttle without traction control will inevitably be a learning experience.
Our first tip is to re-learn the way in which you apply the throttle.
Without traction control, tyres will be much more prone to spinning, and as such, you must apply the throttle much more smoothly.
Ramping straight up to 100% throttle will result in a spin and inevitable crash.
Here, if you have the equipment, it is important to note what you are feeling through your force feedback.

If you are getting a lot of feedback when leaving a corner, chances are you’re accelerating too hard.
Avoiding wheel spin
As we’ve already mentioned, you will have to be careful with the throttle.
If not, it is incredibly easy to spin your rear wheels.
Not only does this cost you valuable race time, it can also potentially lead to a crash as you lose control of the back end.
Short Shifting
An often-overlooked element of driving with no traction control is short shifting when exiting a corner.
As we’ve already mentioned, a key element to driving without traction control is to avoid wheel spin.
This is never truer than when exiting a corner, where sharp acceleration is often required to keep a good lap time.
As such, short-shifting, or changing up through the gears early, when exiting a corner can help to prevent this and keep as much traction as possible in those rear wheels.
That means you'll need to be racing with manual gears though!
Setup changes
We believe there are two further settings which should help your transition to driving without traction control.
One is placing a high rear wing value. This simply helps with rear end grip and ensures the back of your car remains planted through a corner.

The next setting is found in your transmission. Putting your on-throttle differential as 50% should provide a much smoother traction out of corners.
Now you should be all set to take on your favourite track like a pro!
