While F1 22 has received mixed reviews, it’s off to a strong start in terms of sales. After launching last week, F1 22 has debuted at number one in the UK physical game sales charts.
F1 22 races to number 1 in UK physical game sales charts
As reported by Ukie, F1 22 overtook Horizon Forbidden West to take pole position in the UK physical game sales charts for the week ending 2 July, also beating Nintendo Switch Sports and Lego Star Wars the Skywalker Saga.
Remember, this doesn’t take digital sales into account. This makes F1 22’s debut chart position an even more impressive feat considering the physical release only came out on 1 July.
F1 22’s success is a testament to Formula 1’s increased popularity over the years, helped by Netflix’s Drive to Survive and EA’s marketing push for the F1 game series. It certainly bodes well for the future of the franchise after F1 2021 exceeded EA’s sales expectations since acquiring Codemasters.
Curiously, GRID Legends also re-entered the top 40 charts, coming in dead last at number 40. Perhaps the recent release of the demolition-derby-themed Classic Car-Nage Pack reignited interest in Codemasters’ criminally underrated racing game.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also continues to dominate sales. Despite releasing on Nintendo Switch in 2017, it was the fifth best-selling game last week in the UK physical games sales charts. At this rate, we won't be surprised if it surpasses 50 million units by the end of this year.
