F1 23: How to change difficulty

F1 23 can be as easy or as hard as you want. A lot of players however don’t know how to change the difficulty.

Difficulty in F1 23 can be determined by two factors, AI difficulty and which assists you have enabled. So how do you change the difficulty to make it easier or harder?

How to change the difficulty in F1 23

Changing the AI difficulty is the quickest way to make F1 23 harder or easier. To do this, head over to the settings menu, then navigate to the ‘Difficulty’ tab. Once there, scroll down to the ‘AI Difficulty’ setting, then simply adjust the slider.

Be sure to read the description before adjusting the slider, especially when increasing the difficulty. It’s always tempting to ramp the difficulty up to the max before hitting the track, but the last thing anyone wants is to be left at the back of the grid.

Fortunately, F1 23 has a range of AI difficulty for each difficulty level.

  • 20-39 - Easy
  • 40-59 - Medium
  • 60-79 - Hard
  • 80-89 - Expert
  • 90-94 - Master
  • 95+ - Legend

AI difficulty not only affects the difficulty out on track during a race, but it also covers practice and qualifying sessions. This means it’ll be much harder to stick the car on pole in those crucial races.

Out on track, harder AI will be much more aggressive when racing wheel to wheel. They will also be faster through the corners, and more likely to catch you on the straights.

It’s not just AI difficulty that can make F1 23 easier or harder, however.

Changing assists in F1 23

Assists are crucial in F1 23. Each assist affects the car differently. They can help you brake without locking up, hit the apex every time, and then keep the car pointing straight when getting the power down on corner exit.

If you’re looking for a real challenge in F1 23, try disabling traction control and the anti-lock brakes. This will result in a chance of locking up the car in the braking zones or spinning out accelerating out of slow corners. It may take some time to learn how to control the car, but it can knock a huge amount of time off your lap when it matters.

Once you’re comfortable with the car’s new balance, you can even try disabling assists like the racing line. This creates the challenge of having to learn each track from scratch, including every braking point. Again though, this can help shave off those precious seconds.

There are so many ways to change the difficulty in F1 23. Combining a higher AI difficulty with no assists is the perfect challenge for seasoned F1 fans.
