GTRevival: First Gameplay Footage Revealed

GTRevival, the long-awaited sequel to GTR 2, is being developed by Straight4Studios, a new startup founded by former Slightly Mad Studios CEO Ian Bell. So far, GTRevival (initially known as ‘GTR Revival’ has only been shown off in work-in-progress screenshots – until now.

To celebrate a new milestone in the game’s physics development, Straight4Studios has shared the first GTRevival gameplay footage.

First GTRevival gameplay footage revealed

The two-minute unlisted video on YouTube features Lead Handling Designer Doug Arnao (another former Slightly Mad Studios veteran who worked on the GTR and Project CARS games) putting a Ferrari 296 through its paces around Interlagos.

It’s worth emphasising this gameplay is work-in-progress, with Bell explaining that elements like the audio and head movement are unfinished.

According to Bell, who has made a number of bold claims in the past, GTRevival will boast “the most acute and reactive physics ever delivered and “in-game animations like wheels directly connected to the underlying physics with no perceptible lag.”

The video backs up this claim, with no noticeable lag, impressive visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5, and visceral audio considering the game is still in early development.

GTRevival 2025 release window confirmed

As for when sim racers can get their hands on GTRevival, an early access build for WMD members (the World of Mass Development crowdfunding campaign) was planned for late 2023, so it will hopefully arrive in December.

Unfortunately, the final release is further away. Initially planned for a 2024 release, Bell also confirmed in a reply on X (formerly Twitter) that GTRevival’s release window has slipped to 2025 on PC and consoles. With Assetto Corsa 2 also on the horizon next year, sim racing fans have much to look forward to.
