After receiving rave user reviews on Steam, Trail Out has smashed its way onto Xbox Series X|S. First released in 2022 on PC, Trail Out is a new destruction-focused racer developed by the small team at Good Boy Games and published by Crytivo.

Bringing back the spirit of FlatOut

As the name suggests, Trail Out aims to recapture the spirit of the original FlatOut games developed by BugBear Entertainment, which later created Wreckfest. Also inspired by Burnout, Trail Out is an adrenaline-fueled arcade racer with an emphasis on causing chaos, smashing into scenery, and crashing cars.

Just like the original FlatOut games, the environments are fully destructible, allowing you to smash through buildings, barriers, and fences, littering the track with debris.

Trail Out’s 70+ cars can be upgraded, with vehicles ranging from sleek sports cars to tanks, school buses, and Mario-inspired karts. A single-player story sees you rise the ranks and defeat rivals on the Black List. There’s no online multiplayer sadly, but you can still smash into your friends in local split-screen multiplayer for up to four players.

Along with standard races, Trail Out offers traditional demolition derby matches, in which the aim is to destroy other cars in an arena and be the last driver standing. There’s also a pursuit mode, in which you have to take out rivals in thrilling high-speed chases.

If the FlatOut inspiration wasn’t already obvious, there are even ragdoll physics challenges where you eject the driver through the windscreen to score points in novelty mini games from human bowling to high jumps.

Out now on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 release coming this year

Trail Out is out now on the Xbox store for £24.99 / $29.99. With over 70 cars, over 40 tracks, and over 10 game modes, you’re getting a lot of content for the asking price. Adding to the value, the Xbox version also bundles all DLC released for the PC version including a car clearly inspired by Most Wanted’s iconic BMW M3 GTR.

PlayStation players won’t be left out for much longer either, as a PS5 version is expected to arrive sometime this year. Good Boys won’t stop supporting the PC version though, with VR support in the works to make the carnage even more visceral.

If you enjoy games like Wreckfest, FlatOut, and Burnout, Trail Out looks like it will satisfy your appetite for destruction. Will you be taking Trail Out for a spin and causing some carnage on Xbox? Let us know in the comments below.
