With Forza Motorsport out now for early access players, comparisons between its main competitor Gran Turismo 7 were a matter of time. With both titles pushing raising the visual bar on consoles, IGN has shared a Forza Motorsport vs. Gran Turismo 7 graphics comparison showing how both games stack up visually.
Forza Motorsport vs. Gran Turismo 7 graphics comparison
For parity, IGN’s Forza Motorsport vs. Gran Turismo 7 graphics comparison pits both games with the same console settings, car, track, and time of day. Both were captured at 4K with an Alpine A110 at Watkins Glen at a sunny time of day in clear conditions.
Forza Motorsport is played in Performance RT (ray tracing) mode, while GT7 is played with frame rate prioritised. The comparison showcases the third-person, interior, and bonnet viewpoints in both games as well as replays.
Visually, both games have pros and cons. GT7’s cars are intricately detailed, whereas Forza Motorsport reuses car models from older games with lower-quality assets. But Forza Motorsport’s environments boast better trackside details, with dynamic time of day and weather on all circuits.
One area where Forza Motorsport surpasses GT7 is ray-tracing. Ray-traced reflections are restricted to replays in GT7, whereas Forza Motorsport supports in-game ray-tracing depending on the graphics mode.
It’s also worth noting that GT7 is cross-platform on PS5 and PS4, making its visual prowess even more remarkable. Unlike Forza Motorsport, Gran Turismo 7 is also playable in VR using a PSVR 2 headset.
As for which game looks better, there’s no clear winner. Both games look visually stunning but have different art styles. GT7’s oversaturated colours and polished graphics give the game a glossy look. Forza Motorsport looks washed out by comparison but the aesthetic is arguably more realistic.
It’s worth noting that a display bug is causing Forza Motorsport to look washed out. This can be temporarily fixed by setting the preferred video option and quitting Forza Motorsport from the Xbox dashboard.
IGN still encountered this issue but restarting the console resolved it. Turn 10 is aware of this issue and is working on a fix in an upcoming update.
