With plenty of other content and improvements to enjoy also, let’s check out everything coming to Gran Turismo 7 in the July 1.49 update.

First up is the 2007 Ferrari 430 Scuderia. The successor to the Ferrari 360, the 430 makes its long-awaited return to Gran Turismo after appearing in both GT5 and GT6.

Next is the 1997 BMW M3. Making its debut in Gran Turismo in update 1.49, this high-performance road car is perfect for blasting around the Nordschleife.

Then we have the 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4. Named after a breed of fighting bull, this charger has also appeared in GT5 and GT6, making a popular return in 1.49.

Following that is the incredible Genesis X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept. The latest Vision GT concept car, the Genesis was unveiled at the recent Busan International Mobility Show 2024.

Rally fans will be excited by the next addition, as the 1998 Subaru Impreza Rally Car drifts its way into Gran Turismo 7’s car list. This replaces the 1999 model that has been ever-present in the series since Gran Turismo 2.

Last but not least is the RUF RGT 4.2 added in the 1.49 update. Converted from a Porsche 991, the RGT 4.2 squeezes out every ounce of performance on track.

This sees a variety of vehicles added to GT7’s car list, covering a range of car classes for players to enjoy. It’s not just new cars coming in 1.49, however.

Returning track

Eiger Nordwand makes its return to Gran Turismo in update 1.49. This Swiss circuit was first seen in Gran Turismo 5, before switching across to GT6. Although missing in Gran Turismo Sport, fans can once again go for a spin in the Eiger region in GT7.

Based on real-world hiking trails, Eiger Nordwand features four distinct configurations. Whether or not all four will be in GT7 remains to be seen, but seeing this stunningly beautiful circuit return will please the fanbase.

As well as racing their rivals out on track, players can also race against the mountain railway that runs close to the circuit. Eiger Nordwand is the first new circuit added to Gran Turismo since November 2023, being a welcome addition to the game’s track list.

As well as the new cars and the return of Eiger Nordwand, update 1.49 will also see several improvements and changes come to Gran Turismo 7.

Improved racing

Update 1.49 sees the car physics of Gran Turismo 7 overhauled. This creates a more realistic experience for players, especially those racing on PlayStation 5. With Assetto Corsa Evo set to rival GT7 later this year, Polyphony is acting now to keep hold of the title of Real Driving Simulator.

The update also brings both a new wheel manufacturer and Michelin tyres to the game. Now players have more options when it comes to their rims and rubber before hitting the tarmac.

Finally, update 1.49 introduces Gran Turismo’s Sophy AI racing agent to the Nordschleife. Developed as a collaboration between Polyphony, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Sony AI, Sophy is an incredibly realistic AI racing tool capable of competing against the best human sim racers.

Trained to beat the very best, Sophy’s addition to the Nordschleife means GT7 players can now race against the best AI racer ever created around one of the best circuits ever built. This, then, is arguably the best feature of the 1.49 update.

With the buzz around update 1.49 building with the release of the teaser trailer, when can fans expect to play the new update?

Update 1.49 release date

Revealed during Round 1 of the Gran Turismo World Series held in Montreal, we now know when the 1.49 update is scheduled to launch. Fans can hop into the new cars to explore the new circuit from July 25.

Update 1.49 is a significant change for Gran Turismo 7. Six new cars are greater than the norm when it comes to new vehicles, while the addition of a new circuit also elevates 1.49 above previous patches. Add to that the expansion of Sophy and fans have a great update awaiting them later this month.
