Gran Turismo 7's Update 1.49 patch has been delayed by a month, so what will it bring when it launches?
Gran Turismo 7 is a quality game and it's still receiving regular updates thanks to the tireless work of developers Polyphony.
After previously expecting the next monthly update to come in June 2024, we now know the update has been delayed to July. Here's everything we know about Gran Turismo 7's July 2024 update (update 1.49).
Latest news - Update 1.49 adds six new cars and new track
Round 1 of the 2024 Gran Turismo World Series held in Montreal saw the first reveal for Gran Turismo 7's 1.49 update released.
The July 2024 update brings six new vehicles to the race, along with a returning track for players to enjoy. You can check out the below trailer from Gran Turismo:
Two out of the six cars are returning from previous titles, while the rest are all making their GT debuts. Also returning is the Eiger Nordwand circuit. Set high in the southern Swiss mountains, this is the perfect location to test out the new wheels.
Along with the new and returning cars and track, update 1.49 also improves the car physics in the game, as well as adding a new wheel manufacturer, tyre supplier Michelin, and expands the Sophy AI racer to the Nordschleife.
This is a huge amount of new content for players to get stuck into, with the 1.49 update being one of the largest in recent memory.
Gran Turismo 7 July 2024 Update (Update 1.49) release date
Along with revealing the content coming in the 1.49 update, the teaser trailer also confirmed the release date for Update 1.49. Fans can get behind the wheel of the new cars around Eiger Nordwand from July 25.
The specific time that Update 1.49 will go live is July 24 at 11:00 pm PST / July 25 at 7:00 am BST / 3:00 pm JST.
Despite Gran Turismo Creator Kazunori Yamauchi not posting his usual pre-update tease, he has shared the trailer on his social media. Considering the update was revealed during the opening round of the 2024 Gran Turismo World Series, this is a break from the norm.
What can we expect in the July 2024 update?
Monthly updates usually include at least three new cars, GT Cafe Menu Books to complete, Scape photo locations, and World Circuit Events to expand the campaign.
Some updates have moved away from this template, with the July 2024 update 1.49 being one of these exceptions. Six new cars have been confirmed for the update, along with a new circuit as well as other major and minor game improvements.
Cars
Six new cars have been revealed as coming to the 1.49 update, with the Genesis X Gran Racer VGT Concept being one of the standouts. Unveiled at the Busan International Mobility Show, the radical concept delivers 1,540 horsepower, perfect for charging around each circuit.
Alongside the Genesis are the 2007 Ferrari 430 Scuderia, 1997 BMW M3, 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4, 1998 Subaru Impreza Rally Car, and the RUF RGT 4.2. The Ferrari and Lamborghini are returning to the series having appeared in both GT5 and GT6, while the others all make their Gran Turismo debuts.
Covering a wide range of classes, these additions add some serious horsepower to Gran Turismo 7's car list.
New track
Despite rumors suggesting Update 1.49 will add the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve after references to the Canadian circuit were found in a data mine leak, it's actually Europe that gets the new track.
Update 1.49 brings Eiger Nordwand back to the series. This is the track's first appearance since Gran Turismo 6, having been absent in Gran Turismo Sport.
Whether or not all four track configurations will be present has not yet been revealed. But charging through the Swiss mountains alongside the mountain railway is an experience many players are now yearning for once again.
Other improvements
The new cars and track may steal the headlines, but update 1.49 brings many other features and improvements to Gran Turismo 7. The game's car physics are being overhauled to make the driving experience more realistic for players, ready for Gran Turismo 7 to take on Assetto Corsa Evo later this year.
A new wheel manufacturer is also being added, as is Michelin as a tyre supplier. These are all exciting changes, but it's the last one that will hype fans the most.
Gran Tuismo's Sophy AI racer is being expanded to include the Nordschleife. Now sim racers can take on the world's most advanced AI racer around one of the best tracks ever built.
This alone would have made update 1.49 one of the best additions to Gran Turismo 7. Combined with the new cars and returning track though, Update 1.49 could be the biggest GT7 ever!
