While there was no Gran Turismo 7 January update, Polyphony Digital has shared the first details about Gran Turismo 7 update 1.29, revealing what we can expect in the next GT7 update.

Free Gran Turismo 7 PSVR 2 upgrade

Update 1.29 will add full PSVR 2 support for GT7. With the free upgrade, players can experience all races and game modes in VR with the exception of two-player split screen. This means the single-player campaign and online multiplayer races will be playable in VR.

Taking full advantage of PSVR 2’s technology, GT7 will utilise “specially optimised HDR tone mapping” according to Polyphony as well as eye-tracking and dynamic 3D audio support, bringing a new level of immersion.

A new VR Showroom accessible in the Garage or car dealerships also lets you explore every car inside and out, so you can examine the detailed exteriors and interiors up close.

Every car can be viewed from various angles with 12 selectable backgrounds including GT Auto, Brand Central, Legend Cars Dealership, and GT Café.

From gameplay videos we’ve seen so far, GT7 will be a huge step forward for VR racing with new levels of visual clarity and immersion.

With the full game playable in VR, the PSVR 2 upgrade promises to be a significant step up from GT Sport, which was limited to time trial and offline races with a single opponent.

Gran Turismo 7 update 1.29 release date

Gran Turismo 7 update 1.29 is releasing on 21 February, just in time for PSVR 2’s global release on 22 February. As always, this will be a free update and the servers will go offline while Polyphony implements the update.

An exact time isn’t confirmed, but GT7 updates usually roll out around 7am UTC.

Will we get any new content?

It’s not clear if Gran Turismo 7 update 1.29 will include any extra content besides the PSVR 2 upgrade.

With Polyphony likely prioritising optimising GT7 for VR, update 1.29 may not include any extra cars, single player races or Café Menu books.

GT7’s last content update was back in December last year, so it’s fair to say players are clamouring for new cars and tracks.
