Ever since it was announced, we’ve been itching to see a trailer for the upcoming Gran Turismo movie adaptation. Ahead of its theatrical release, Sony Pictures Entertainment has released a teaser trailer giving us a sneak peek at the Gran Turismo movie cast and thrilling racing action.
Gran Turismo movie teaser trailer
The Gran Turismo movie teaser trailer introduces us to the cast and confirms the lead character will be based on winner Jann Mardenborough, who went on to race at Le Mans after winning the 2011 GT Academy, rather than a fictional character.
Playing this leading role will be Archie Madekwe. David Harbour, who plays a retired racing driver that teaches Mardenborough how to drive, also appears in the trailer praising the film’s “badass race-car action that you’re going to feel like you’re in the middle of.”
One scene shows his character teaching drivers playing Gran Turismo in the familiar pods from the GT Academy.
We also get a look at the film’s pulse-pounding racing action with a group of Nismo GT-Rs battling it out along with Le Mans prototypes racing in the rain.
With cockpit cameras and dramatic drone shots, director Neill Blomkamp promises audiences will “feel every jolt, every thrill of this racing at 200 mph” and experience “body-vibrating sound.” There’s even a homage to Gran Turismo’s third-person chase camera.
The racing action looks visceral, but it remains to be seen if the story will be compelling. Madekwe says the story will have plenty of “drama” and even “a love story.” Because you can’t have a racing film without a shoehorned love story.
We expect the full trailer to preview the story scenes that punctuate the racing action in the coming months.
Release date
Simply titled Gran Turismo, the Gran Turismo movie races into theatres on 11 August. Expect to see a full trailer before then.
