Seven years ago, Brazil’s Aquiris Game Studio released Horizon Chase World Tour for mobiles, a retro-style homage to old-school arcade racers like Top Gear and OutRun. Since then, it’s become one of the most popular indie racers on the market, with over 80 million downloads.
Horizon Chase Turbo was later released on consoles and PC, bringing the arcade racer to a wider audience. Featuring stylised visuals and a thumping soundtrack composed by Top Gear’s Barry Leitch, Horizon Chase Turbo brought back local split-screen multiplayer at a time when this once standard game mode rarely featured in modern racing games.
To celebrate the seventh anniversary of the retro racer, Aquiris has released a surprise free update for Horizon Chase Turbo.
New Adventure game mode
Headlining the seventh-anniversary update is a new Adventure game mode adding a collection of new circuits along with new car skins.
Whenever a new car is unlocked in the World Tour mode, a new Adventure is unlocked with a set of five tracks to tackle. This replaces the Playgrounds game mode.
Once every track in an adventure is completed, a new car skin is rewarded. With 34 skins to unlock, Aquiris is confident the new Adventures mode adds an extra eight hours of gameplay to Horizon Chase Turbo. That's no small feat considering it already has an extensive World Tour campaign and DLC expansions like the Senna Forever DLC.
Horizon Chase 7th anniversary celebrations
The anniversary celebrations don’t end there. There are also discounts for the base game and discounts and “new exclusive community content paying homage to the game.”
Aquiris also teased that Horizon Chase will soon be released on a new platform, but didn't specify which.
Currently, Horizon Chase Turbo is available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. A limited-edition PlayStation Vita version was also released exclusively in Asia. Could this mean a current-gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X is in the pipeline?
