We're going to show you how to drift in Asphalt 9. Drifting is a key mechanic in most arcade racing games, and Asphalt 9: Legends is no exception.
Drifting in Asphalt 9: Legends not only allows you to be faster and win races, but also gains you boost that can be used for Nitro boosts during races.
So, with that in mind, how can you drift? And when should you? We've got everything you need to know about drifting in Asphalt 9: Legends right here!
How to Drift in Asphalt 9
While braking and going with a "slow in, fast out" might be better in circuit racing simulators like Gran Turismo 7, that approach isn't the best in arcade racers.
You'll need to suspend reality and dive into each turn and bend at full pelt before drifting sideways. This allows you to go round the corner as fast as possible without scrubbing much speed off.
It'll also gain you boost, even more if you manage to take out an opponent while doing it or getting close but missing the outside wall.
Not only that, but drifting also looks cooler and is much more exciting than taking a more traditional approach to cornering. The tyre squealing fun also won't damage your wheels, as this isn't a mechanic in the game.
When to Drift in Asphalt 9
Whenever the opportunity presents itself, you should drift. That applies to most corners on every circuit in the game, but the ones that are definitely meant to be drifted around will have the electronic direction arrows.
These let you know whether the upcoming corner is a left or right turn, but don't confuse them with the diverging paths arrows.
These are both left and right next to each other and aren't to be drifted around, like the ones in the screenshot above.
Whether you're playing offline career mode or online with you friends, drifting is an absolute must for
Drifting on different systems
Asphalt 9: Legends is available on multiple different console systems, which means how you drift can vary from platform to platform. For those on PC, you'll need to use the "S" key on keyboard, unless you have it mapped differently.
For users on mobile, you'll need to tap the brake pedal (left button on screen) and turn your device either left or right to pull a drift. This is the same for those on two, three and four button controls layouts.
On Switch, you'll need to press the ZR button and then flick the directional stick either left or right depending upon the direction of the corner.
It'll likely be a similar button combination for those using a controller pad or racing wheel and pedals on PC.
