Hot Wheels Unleashed was a massive success for Milestone, so fans are wondering if a sequel is in the works. Well, we have good news because it looks like Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 is happening.
While Milestone has yet to announce Hot Wheels Unleashed 2, the sequel has accidentally leaked thanks to Instagram images showing the game logo. This is welcome news for fans of Milestone’s popular arcade toy racer.
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged leaks on diecast Twin Mill
As reported by GTPlanet, Instagram user Ajib Nobi spotted a Twin Mill diecast model car sporting a prominent Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 logo on the back of the car, accidentally leaking the sequel ahead of an official announcement.
The Twin Mill diecast car is reportedly a Gamestop exclusive to promote the Hot Wheels Unleashed sequel.
The photo also reveals the name of the sequel: Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged.
At this stage, there are no other details, screenshots, or game footage available, but the leak seemingly confirms a Hot Wheels Unleashed sequel is in the pipeline.
We expect the sequel to expand on its predecessor with more cars, tracks, and collaborations. The original featured an assortment of cars based on popular IPs including Street Fighter, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Batman.
It’s not known if Milestone is developing the sequel. With MotoGP 23 and RIDE 5 releasing this year, the Italian studio has a busy release schedule over the next few months.
If Milestone is developing Hot Wheels Unleashed 2, it will likely arrive either later this year to compete with LEGO 2K Drive or sometime in 2024. Now that Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged has leaked, we could get an announcement trailer soon.
Hot Wheels Unleashed surpasses 2 million sales
It’s no surprise that Hot Wheels Unleashed is getting a sequel. This month, Milestone announced that Hot Wheels Unleashed has surpassed two million sales, making it the best-selling game in the studio’s history.
More than eight million players have registered Hot Wheels Unleashed across all platforms, though its availability on Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Premium likely had a huge impact on player numbers.
Since Hot Wheels Unleashed released in September 2021, users have spent the equivalent of 929 years playing the arcade racer and designed over one million liveries in the Livery Editor.
