Monster Energy Supercross 5 trailer reveals unique rider injury system

Crashing rarely has consequences in bike racing games. Milestone changed this in MotoGP 21 with a new Bike Retrieval system. If you fall off, you have to manually run back to your bike to retrieve it and rejoin the race. In Monster Energy Supercross 5, falling off your bike injures your rider and has consequences, affecting your performance.

To show how this works, a new trailer Monster Energy Supercross 5 has dropped showcasing Milestone's new Rider Shape System. Let’s jump in.

New Rider Shape System: injuries affect your performance

Supercross racing is close and chaotic. As a result, it's easy to accidentally make contact with another rider and take a tumble. This has consequences in Monster Energy Supercross 5.

Injuring your rider affects your performance in Monster Energy Supercross 5

Available only in career mode, the Rider Shape System monitors eight areas of your rider’s body that can be injured in track incidents. Injuring these areas affects your performance. For example, your rider can suffer neck whiplash from a hard landing. As a result, this affects mid-air control of your rider.

Dislocating a shoulder also affects your ability to control the bike, while dislocating an elbow makes it harder to scrub. Bruising an arm also affects braking. It sounds like the Rider Shape System will make timing jumps correctly and avoiding barging into other riders even more crucial for success than before.

Timing jumps will be more important than ever in Monster Energy Supercross 5 to prevent injuring your rider

Fortunately, riders can recover from injuries by working out. As the trailer shows, riders can get back in shape by performing whips and collecting letters that form the word “shape” in a training track.

Doing this makes your injuries magically disappear. It also looks like you need to either collect 350 gem icons or cover a certain distance to recover.
