Legendary Circuit Rumored to Return to Gran Turismo

While Gran Turismo 7's updates keep adding new cars, fans are still clamoring for a new circuit to race on. Itā€™s been six months since weā€™ve had a new track to tackle, with the fictional Louise Lake Shore circuit joining GT7 in last Novemberā€™s Spec II update.

However, a much-loved circuit is set to return to Gran Turismo according to a Super GT driver.

Twin Ring Motegi could be returning to Gran Turismo

As GTPlanet reports, Super GT racing driver Takayuki Aoki has claimed that the Twin Ring Motegi circuit is returning to Gran Turismo. ā€œThe person inside said that they were making it,ā€ Aoki wrote on X, formerly Twitter, in a message translated from Japanese responding to a fan asking if Motegi is coming back to Gran Turismo.

This suggests that Aoki has learned from an insider that Polyphony is planning to bring Motegi to Gran Turismo, but itā€™s not clear when.

Now known as Mobility Resort Motegi, the Japanese circuit hasnā€™t been seen in a Gran Turismo game since GT6 in 2013. It first appeared in GT4 and was part of a paid DLC pack in GT5 but was absent in GT Sport and GT7.

Located in Motegi, Japan, Twin Ring Motegiā€™s name alludes to the circuit's two distinct layouts: a 1.5-mile oval track and a 2.9-mile road course. However, the oval circuit was damaged by the 9.1-magnitude Tohoku earthquake in 2011 and hasnā€™t been used for racing since, but the road course still hosts Super GT and Super Formula events.

Will Twin Ring Motegi be in Gran Turismo 7?

Aokiā€™s comment isnā€™t a confirmation that Twin Ring Motegi is returning to Gran Turismo, so take this rumor with a pinch of salt until we get an official announcement from Polyphony. It seems credible, though, considering Polyphonyā€™s partnership with Super Formula.

As GTPlanet notes, Motegi is one of only two circuits on the Super GT and Super Formula calendar that isnā€™t in GT7, so it makes sense for Polyphony to add Motegi at some point. You can also race the 2023 Super Formula in GT7. If this rumor is true, whether the original oval layout will be included remains to be seen.

Itā€™s also a mystery if the Motegi circuit will be added to Gran Turismo 7 or a future entry in the franchise. With Polyphony already working on the next entry, we wonā€™t be surprised if Motegi is saved as a launch track for Gran Turismo 8.
