We’re still waiting for EA to officially reveal Need for Speed 2022 in development by Criterion Games and Codemasters Cheshire. In the meantime, there have been rumours about the game’s location and visual style as well as leaked gameplay footage.

As for a release date, Need for Speed 2022 is expected to arrive in November. EA has already confirmed it will launch between 1 October and 31 December in Financial Year 23 Q3. But thanks to reliable EA insider Tom Henderson, we may now have an exact date.

Need for Speed 2022 to be released on 4 November?

According to Henderson’s sources, Need for Speed 2022 will be released on 4 November. It’s worth reiterating that EA has not officially confirmed the release date or even revealed the new Need for Speed game yet.

Need for Speed 2022 will reportedly release on 4 November.

However, Henderson’s sources have proven reliable in the past. Henderson previously leaked F1 22’s supercars before the game was revealed.

A November release is also plausible as this is when Need for Speed games are typically released to capitalise on Christmas sales.

When will Need for Speed 2022 be revealed?

If the Need for Speed 2022 release date is 4 November, we should learn more about the next instalment in the franchise soon. We may not have to wait very long, either.

According to a recent report by Henderson via Exputer, NFS 2022 will be revealed sometime in July along with Skate after this year’s EA Play event was cancelled. Need for Speed: Unbound is rumoured to be the name of the new NFS game, but this could be an internal codename.

Need for Speed 2022 will likely be shown at Gamescom in August.

Henderson also backed up claims made by Jeff Grubb that Need for Speed 2022 will combine photorealistic graphics with an anime aesthetic, adding that smoke, wind, and fire effects will come off the car when driving fast or drifting. Characters in the game are also said to be inspired by The Boondocks animation series, suggesting that Need for Speed 2022 will have a storyline.

Furthermore, online multiplayer will be a big focus in NFS 2022. Not only is Criterion’s Autolog system reportedly returning, but a new Meetups feature will allow players to meet up around the map and start races. The tracks are also “unique”, with one source saying one map has a large train going through it while you’re racing.

Take these rumours with a pinch of salt for now, but an official reveal could be just around the corner. After the reveal, NFS 2022 will likely be shown at Gamescom, which starts on 24 August.
