New Burnout Game Possibly Teased by Need for Speed Dev

Weā€™ve known for a while that Stellar Entertainment, the developer behind the Burnout Paradise and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit remasters, is working on an unannounced triple-A arcade racer.

Now, enticing teasers from the Guildford-based developer may hint at the mystery title being a new Burnout game.

Stellar Entertainment possibly teases new Burnout game

Over the last few months, Stellar has been advertising new job roles for an ā€œAAA arcade racing titleā€ built in Unreal Engine 5 that will be ā€œdisrupting the racing scene.ā€ That doesnā€™t offer any clues, but cryptic Tweets from the studio are possibly possibly teasing a new Burnout game.

ā€œOur way of giving you (kinda weird ) insider intel about what weā€™re working on, without actually telling you what weā€™re working onā€¦ And the bosses *still* haven't issued any take downs!ā€ Stellar's X post reads. An image accompanies the post with the text: ā€œPOV: Youā€™re about to be rear ended.ā€

Burnout fans will be familiar with takedowns, the term used for forcing opponents to have a spectacular crash by ramming them into walls and cars. Takedown is also the subtitle of Burnout 3. Although nothing is confirmed yet, this may suggest that Stellar is working on a new Burnout game or a Burnout 3: Takedown remaster.

Could we be getting a Burnout 3: Takedown remaster?

Given that Stellar has already worked on remasters for Burnout Paradise and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, a Burnout 3 remaster or remake would make sense. As well as remastering Burnout Paradise and Hot Pursuit, Stellar also worked with Criterion on Need for Speed Unbound.

Notably, September 2024 happens to mark Burnout 3ā€™s 20th anniversary, so itā€™s the perfect time to celebrate one of the best arcade racers of all time. There are also rumours that a Need for Speed Most Wanted remake is in the works, but Stellarā€™s teasers hint at a new Burnout game.

Aside from Burnout Paradise Remastered and the forgettable Crash mobile spin-off, the last game in the franchise was the original Burnout Paradise in 2008, despite fans begging for the series to make a comeback. Hopefully, the success of the remaster has convinced EA to finally greenlight a new Burnout game.

Potentially, Stellarā€™s new arcade racer could get a surprise reveal in tonightā€™s PlayStation State of Play as these events tend to focus on third-party games. If not, weā€™ll probably have to wait until EAā€™s Summer Showcase to find out about Stellar Gamesā€™ top-secret arcade racer. Weā€™re keeping our fingers crossed for a Burnout revival.

Stellar has a long history with the Burnout franchise. The studio was founded by Paul Ross, who worked for Criterion for nearly 18 years on titles including Burnout 3, Burnout Revenge, Burnout Paradise, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, and Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

Incidentally, original Burnout creators Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry are working on a spiritual successor at Three Fields Entertainment. Last seen in a trailer last August, Wreckreation fuses Burnout's car crashing mayhem with cooperative track creation in a seamless open world.
