WipEout and F-Zero have been dormant for years, but there are some surprisingly good alternatives if you look hard enough.

Released in 2016, Redout is one of the best and most underrated alternatives to WipEout, featuring absurdly fast ships, a banging soundtrack, and a unique control scheme.

Redout 2 was announced as a sequel in January, and it looks like a promising follow-up to the underrated original.

A few months later, 34BigThings has revealed the Redout 2 release date– and it’s a lot sooner than we expected.

Redout 2 release date revealed

Announced in a new trailer showcasing the game’s eye-meltingly fast anti-gravity racing action, Redout 2 release date is 26 May. This is sooner than expected, as Redout 2 previously had a vague 2022 release window.

The fastest racing game in the universe

A sequel to the underrated 2016 original, Redout 2 is billed as the “fastest racing game in the universe,” and for good reason. With insanely fast speeds of over 1,000 km/h and an intuitive control scheme, Redout 2 will be tricky but rewarding to master if the first game is anything to go by.

Redout 2 looks like a worthy WipEout alternative.

The original game was not short on content, but Redout 2 expands on the original with 36 unique tracks across ten galactic locations. Every track is also reversible, bringing the total number to 72. Adding to the variety is a selection of game modes from Arena Races and Time Attacks to Last Man Standing and Boss Races.

Redout 2’s comprehensive customisation system also lets you create a unique craft, with a large selection of propulsors, stabilisers, rudders, intercoolers, flaps, magnets, wings, spoilers, rocket engines, paints, and more.

Redout 2 is releasing sooner than we expected

Combine this with a photo mode, an electronic soundtrack, and online multiplayer for up to 12 players, and Redout 2 looks like the modern WipeOut spiritual successor we’ve been waiting for.

Redout 2 is landing on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4. Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
