To say it's been a rough start for Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown would be an understatement. Shaky reviews, a subreddit in flames, and constant server access issues crushed the game's early access period.
Today TDU Solar Crown has once again gone offline as KT Racing & Nacon make server fixes to correct ongoing issues. There is a major patch to the game on the way, but can it revive the title?
Offline Notice
KT Racing confirmed today that the game would be offline from 8am UTC for "a few hours".
This server maintenance is aimed at a few things:
- Improving the stability of races - Significantly reducing error message pop-ups at the end of races
- Fix the majority of progression save issues related to road discovery
- Improve online matchmaking.
Initially envisaged as a racing MMO, players have struggled not only getting into TDU but finding one another to go racing. Hopefully, this will solve those problems. But there is a much bigger patch on the way.
First Major Patch
In a Steam post, the TDU team addressed some of the launch issues and promised a major patch was in the works with more than 300 fixes for the title.
While bug fixes and stability will be included, this patch will focus on visual issues and hopefully some graphical improvements and optimizations as well as gameplay balancing for AIs in races.
Framerates should improve, and the compatibility and functionality of some peripherals should be fixed too.
This patch is labeled as coming "very soon" but no firm date is given. Hopefully, it should be in the next week or so but KT Racing is not giving specifics.
