The Crew Motorfest launched last September on PC and was a generally well-received entry in the open-world racing series. Like many Ubisoft titles, it was only available on PC via the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Connect.
It's a common frustration for PC players who want to store and play their games in one library on Steam. However, this is set to change, as Ubisoft has announced that The Crew Motorfest is heading to Steam soon.
The Crew Motorfest Steam release date
Ubisoft has announced that The Crew Motorfest will be released on Steam on 18 April, over seven months after its initial release. The Steam page is already live, so you can wishlist The Crew Motorfest now and be alerted when it goes on sale.
As Steam is the most popular platform on PC, the Steam release should boost The Crew Motorfest’s PC player count considerably. Open-world racing fans will soon have an alternative to Forza Horizon on Steam.
Like the initial release, multiple versions of the game will be available on Steam. In addition to the standard edition, the Ultimate Edition includes the Ultimate Fitted Pack and the Year 1 Pass, which gives you access to 25 extra cars including the Ferrari SF90 Stradale and the 2021 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4MATIC. Steam players can also try the game for free for the first five hours.
The Year 1 Pass is also included in the Gold Edition, while the Ultimate Fitted Pack is included in the Deluxe Edition.
While it’s easy to dismiss The Crew Motorfest as a derivative Forza Horizon clone, it’s a fun alternative in its own right. Themed playlists celebrating car culture provide a more focused experience than Forza Horizon, while the superior car handling and more detailed map make it a leap forward from The Crew 2, which will no longer receive updates.
That said, The Crew has arguably lost its identity without its gigantic US map, which was a huge selling point of the original two games.
Ubisoft is also shutting down The Crew’s servers on 31 March after uncerminiously delisting the game on all platforms earlier this year. Since it requires an online connection, this means the first game will no longer be playable unless it gets an offline patch like Gran Turismo 7.
Season 3 out now
The Crew Motorfest’s third season is currently underway. Season 3’s new playlist puts you behind the wheel of famous Hollywood cars, filming vehicular stunts for an action movie in Hawaii.
Over the next months, Season 3 will add a whopping 47 new cars to the vehicle roster, 20 of which are new to Motorfest including the Aston Martin DBS and classic Mini Cooper S.
You might recognise some familiar faces, as special guests like Blackpanthaa, That Dude in Blue, and Shmee150 will be making cameo appearances on the Main Stage.
This week, a new Live Summit celebrates the most iconic cars in racing games, with themed challenges inspired by OutRun, Crazy Taxi, and Excitebike.
