This limited-edition Mario Kart watch probably costs more than your car

With over 166 million copies sold worldwide, Mario Kart is the most successful racing franchise of all time. Even now, five years after it launched on Nintendo Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a mainstay of the top ten game sales charts.

Its popularity has resulted in Tag Heuer partnering with Nintendo to design two limited-edition Mario Kart timepieces: the Formula 1 Chronograph and Formula 1 Chronograph Tourbillon. But you'll probably need to sell your car to afford one.

Limited-edition Tag Heuer Mario Kart watch costs over £20,000

Of the two, the Formula 1 Tourbillon Chronograph is easily the most limited and expensive. With production limited to only 250 units, the luxury watch costs an eye-watering £21,250. Ouch.

Featuring a grade 5 titanium case measuring 45 millimetres, Mario Kart detailing adorns the watch. At the 6 o'clock is a tourbillon with moving Mario Kart elements including Mario driving a kart, a Bullet Bill, and a blue Koopa shell.

Elsewhere, there’s also a gear resembling a kart tyre at the 12 o'clock position, a Mario Kart logo at the upper right side, and Mario’s M mark on top of the crown. The back of the case also reveals silhouettes of Luigi, Mario, and Princess Peach driving their karts and the strap sports a titanium folding buckle with the M logo.

Tag Heuer is also offering a cheaper alternative. Costing a mere £3,500, the Formula 1 Chronograph watch is to 3,000 units. With a 44mm polished steel case, a Mario Kart logo appears on the top of the bezel and Mario is shown on the permanent 9 o’clock position.
