V10 R-League: McLaren Shadow v Fordzilla preview - Will the new boys get off to the perfect start?

The first round of the group stages of the V10 R-League has been completed and we can't wait to see more!

Round 2 starts tonight and Thursday brings a landmark match-up in Group B. McLaren Shadow Esports are making their debut in the V10 R-League series against Fordzilla. Fordzilla were the weakest team in Season 1, but have shown they're a better outfit in Season 2, picking up a point against BMW in Round 1.

McLaren are looking to win it all, but they have to overcome a resurgent Fordzilla side. Can they do it? We've got everything you need to know right here!

Race for the play-offs

With only four matches available to each team to seal a place in the play-offs, every game is crucial. Group B's battle is wide open, as all five teams can beat anybody on their day, thanks to the V10 R-League's unique format. McLaren Shadow's main rivals for qualification are Williams and BMW, both of which scored at least three points in Round 1.

POWERING FORWARD: McLaren have some catching up to do, but can do so with their match in hand

That means that a big score for either team would propel them up the table. With JAESA Suzuki not in action in Round 2, a winner of this clash would climb to at least third position in Group B.

Prediction

It's fair to say that McLaren Shadow are firm favourites for the victory in this clash. However, the British outfit are a completely unknown quantity, despite their quick driver line-up. We haven't seen them in a racing scenario yet, so to say this a slam-dunk would be foolish.

NO LONGER PUSHOVERS: Fordzilla aren't the whipping boys anymore

Fordzilla know how to win, and they've been in the V10 R-League since day one. They'll be there to pick up any pieces from a McLaren mistake if they put a wheel wrong.

We'll likely see the same trio donning the Fordzilla overalls again for Round 2. Emre Cihan, Shaun Arnold and Pablo Lopez all did a solid job in Round 1. Don't be too surprised to see one of the reserves pop up though, Julian Rodriguez or Gianmarco Fiduci could be called upon.

McLaren Shadow should go with their three regular drivers for their debut. James Baldwin, Isaac Gillissen and Elvin Smith are all ready and available for Round 2.
