Watch the Alpine pit crew get motion captured in F1 Manager 2022

We’re counting down the days until F1 Manager 2022. With the hotly anticipated release just around the corner next week, Frontier Developments has released the final behind-the-scenes video.

The latest video looks at F1 Manager 2022’s impressive driver animations created with motion capture.

Motion capture technology in F1 Manager 2022

As lead animator Tim West explains, Frontier wanted the character animations to have an "authentic feel."

To achieve this, Frontier used motion capture technology to recreate the excitement, drama, and emotional moments of a Formula 1 race weekend from pit crew reactions, to pit stops, to podium celebrations.

To get the most realistic animations, optical data was used with actors wearing full motion capture suits. Frontier also worked with the Alpine pit crew to capture authentic pit crew animations and gather information from the team.

Pit crew members of the Alpine F1 team were motion-captured working on a real F1 car for the game.

As well as motion capture, Frontier used face scanning technology to recreate the facial likenesses of the F1 drivers and satellite detail to accurately model every circuit. With production values rivalling, and arguably surpassing, Codemasters’ F1 games, F1 Manager 2022 is on track to set new standards for racing management games.
