Welcome to Rear View Mirror, your weekly racing game news roundup. Get up to speed on all the latest racing game news from the past week.
From Logitech's first direct drive wheel to Codemasters WRC game rumours, there’s a lot to unpack this week so let’s get started.
Logitech G Pro Wheel – Logitech finally goes direct drive
Fanatec dominates the direct drive wheel market with premium peripherals like the GT DD Pro. But now Logitech is finally making its first foray into the direct drive wheel market with the G Pro Wheel.
With excellent build quality, a 100kg load cell brake, and a whopping 11Nm of torque, it’s certainly a high-tech piece of kit – but is it worth the high asking price? We’ve gone hands-on with the Logitech G Pro Wheel and G Pro Pedals to find out.
First Codemasters WRC game details emerge – build your own rally car!
WRC Generations is arriving next month, but after that the WRC game series will be in Codemasters' hands. EA insider Tom Henderson has revealed the first Codemasters WRC game details, claiming that WRC 23 will let you build your own rally car from scratch.
Intriguingly, Henderson claims that WRC 23 will let you select a drivetrain and buy components such as engines, gearboxes, and brakes to build your dream rally car. Kylotonn has done a masterful job for the last seven years, but this sounds like an exciting new era for WRC games.
F1 Manager 2022 update 1.7 coming next week
While fans were hoping for the next F1 Manager 2022 patch to arrive this week, Frontier Developments has confirmed update 1.7 has been delayed “due to the number of changes that the patch will bring.” These changes include changes to the tyre compounds and AI improvements.
Frontier plans to launch it next week instead, so we hopefully won’t have to wait much longer.
In other news…
The Logitech G Pro Wheel wasn’t the only direct drive-wheel news this week. After a long wait, Thrustmaster is nearly ready to reveal its first direct drive wheel, confirming it will be unveiled in November. Not to be outdone, Fanatec also launched the CSL Elite Pedals V2 featuring a new load cell brake.
Gran Turismo 7 is also getting an update next week that will add a new car: the Porsche Vision GT Spyder. We also got new Gran Turismo movie casting details, with Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom and Never Have I Ever’s Darren Barnet joining the movie adaptation.
With big-name actors and a compelling story inspired by the GT Academy, the Gran Turismo movie is shaping up to be another blockbuster hit for Sony Pictures.
When it launched back in 2005, GTR – FIA Racing set the standard for PC racing simulations. After GTR 3 appeared to get cancelled, the series is making a surprise comeback.
Former Slightly Mad Studios CEO Ian Bell has announced GTR Revival, the long-awaited successor to GTR2. There are no details yet, but with former SimBin developers working on the project, GTR Revival has a lot of potential.
With Dakar Desert Rally just around the corner, a new trailer showcases the classic ‘80s Dakar cars included in the Deluxe Edition. For rally fans, the free Art of Rally Indonesia update is also now available on PC.
NASCAR 21 Ignition is also getting a free 2022 expansion to fill the void of a NASCAR 22 game and BeamNG Drive received a substantial update adding a remastered car, new missions, and motion blur effects – check out the BeamNG Drive update v0.26 patch notes for more details.
In case you missed it…
With no updates from EA or Criterion, it’s now make or break time for Need for Speed 2022 if it's still coming this year. Even Tom Henderson is worried about the lack of NFS updates.
With no F1 Esports races this week, we caught up with Haas’ rising star Thomas Ronhaar to find out more about his path into F1 Esports.
