Sim racing is going strong in 2024 with a big new title on the way, but will Rennsport be on console?
The whole sim racing community is buzzing about Rennsport, the upcoming simulator that is set to dominate the discussion all year.
Utilising Unreal Engine 5 and focusing on hyper-realism, Rennsport is set to challenge iRacing, rFactor 2, and Assetto Corsa for the sim racing crown, but is it coming to PlayStation & Xbox?
Will Rennsport be on console?
Sim racing titles are usually the preserve of PC gamers. With huge content lists, regular DLC, and a focus on modding and customising they aren't necessarily console-friendly.
505 Games changed that when Assetto Corsa came to console, and they eventually took Assetto Corsa Competizione to console too. While these ports have had their issues, and the console version of ACC is still lagging behind the PC version in terms of content, it has bought sim racing to a new audience.
So will Rennsport follow the example? Well, while not well-known it looks like they will!
A reply from the official Rennsport Twitter account shows that plans are in place to bring Rennsport to PlayStation & Xbox. It just won't be right away.
With Rennsport likely to follow every other sim title and get constant updates and new content, it will be tough to port everything across to consoles and make sure that it still delivers the same quality the developers are looking for.
Console players may have to wait a whole year or more beyond the Rennsport release date before they can play it, but it looks like they will be able to play.
DLC packs and updates may follow a similar "delay" that players see with ACC on console, but that is a small price to pay for access to an amazing title.
In our recent interview with Competition Company, CEO Morris Hebecker also hinted at a future Rennsport console release in the future: "We have a strategy when it comes to console and more casual gameplay using a joypad. It is on our timeline but we will not focus on that yet. It’s the next step next year.”
Rennsport release date
Rennsport was slated for release in December 2023, but that date has come and gone with the game still in beta. Rennsport's 2024 roadmap has instead revealed that the game will be entering early access in Q3 of 2024.
The roadmap has also given us an insight into the new content arriving in 2024, with the Goodwood Hill Climb joining the game's track list, the Porsche Mission R being added to the car list, a day/night cycle being implemented, and even endurance races coming during the year.
