WRC 10 is without doubt Kylotonn’s best WRC game yet - but the sequel is just around the corner. Here’s everything we know about WRC 11 so far.
New Rally1 cars
The WRC 2022 season introduces new “Rally1” technical regulations. Replacing the old World Rally Car, the new Rally1 cars feature hybrid engines combining a 1.6-litre turbo engine with a 100kW electric motor.
Combined, this setup delivers over 500 horsepower, with maximum power available in bursts of up to three seconds. As a result, the Rally1 cars are more powerful than their predecessors, so this should be an exciting WRC season. Rally1 cars also benefit from simplified aero packages and transmissions.
Being the official WRC game, all teams and drivers from the 2022 WRC season will be in WRC 11. This means you’ll be putting the new Ford Puma Rally1, Hyundai i20 N Rally1, and Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 through their paces.
For the 50th anniversary of the World Rally Championship, WRC 10 also featured an expanded roster of classic rally cars in a special Anniversary mode. We're hoping historic cars will return in WRC 11, but we’ll have to wait until the game is announced to find out.
WRC2, WRC3, and Junior WRC cars from the 2022 WRC season will also be represented.
Locations
Rally New Zealand returns to the WRC 2022 calendar for the first time since 2012. Originally, this location was supposed to return to the WRC calendar in 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic.
New Zealand appeared in WRC 9 and WRC 10. In WRC 9, the location was part of a reimagined 2020 WRC calendar before it was affected by the pandemic. 1986, 1992, and 2007 variants of Rally New Zealand were also in WRC 10.
Since WRC 11 reflects the 2022 WRC calendar, New Zealand will appear in the official WRC championship and career mode.
Based on the WRC 2022 calendar, WRC 11 will feature 13 locations:
- Monte-Carlo
- Sweden
- Croatia
- Portugal
- Italy
- Kenya
- Estonia
- Finland
- Belgium
- Rally Greece
- New Zealand (new)
- Spain
- Japan
WRC 11 release date
WRC 11 has no release date yet. However, Kylotonn’s annual WRC games are normally released in September. WRC 10 was released on 2 September, while WRC 9 was released on 3 September. Going by past WRC games, WRC 11 will likely release on 1 September 2022.
As for platforms, WRC 11 will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, it’s not known yet if WRC 11 will also be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. But with the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles still plagued with supply issues, WRC 11 will likely be released on last-generation platforms.
WRC 9 and WRC 10 were also ported to Nintendo Switch, so we expect WRC 11 will also be released on Nintendo's hybrid console. Switch versions of WRC games tend to be released a few months later, however.
WRC 10 was released for Nintendo Switch in March 2022, so the Switch version of WRC 11 may not arrive until early 2023.
Trailer
There is no WRC 11 trailer yet. However, a WRC 11 trailer should be coming very soon.
The WRC 9 announcement trailer was released on 19 March 2020. WRC 10, on the other hand, was announced on 13 April 2021. This means the WRC 11 announcement trailer will likely come by mid-April 2022.
Editions
WRC 11 hasn’t been announced yet, so we don't know which editions will be available. However, modern games often have multiple variants such as Standard and Deluxe Editions with extra content.
The WRC 10 Deluxe Edition was bundled with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo V, Arena Panzerplatte SSS DLC, and Career Starter Pack. We expect the WRC 11 Deluxe Edition will include similar bonus content.
Price
Pricing details for WRC 11 are not confirmed yet. Considering WRC 10's launch price, WRC 11 will likely cost £49.99 for PS5 and Xbox Series X and £44.99 for PS4 and Xbox One if there is a last-gen release.
If there is a Deluxe Edition, it will cost around £64.99. The Switch version, on the other hand, will likely have a £44.99 RRP.
End of an era
WRC 11 will represent a new era of rallying. At the same time, it will also mark the end of an era.
WRC 11 will be Kylotonn’s last WRC game, ending the French studio’s seven-year tenure. Future WRC games will be developed by Codemasters, with the first arriving in 2023. As part of a five-year deal, Codemasters will develop and release WRC games between 2023 and 2027.
Since WRC 5 came out in 2015, Kylotonn has made significant strides, improving the visuals, driving physics, and stage designs with each iteration.
Let’s hope WRC 11 gives Kylotonn’s WRC game series the send-off it deserves.
