A wealth of racing games are being shown off at Gamescom 2022. One of the titles at the show is WRC Generations, the last WRC game from Kylotonn before Codemasters takes over the series next year.
During Gamescom, publisher Nacon revealed two WRC Generations gameplay videos showcasing stages from Sweden and Japan
Rally Sweden gameplay
At last weekend's Ypres Rally in Belgium, WRC drivers Oliver Solberg from Hyundai and Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Takamoto Katsuta were invited to take WRC Generations for a spin to see how the game compares to real rallying.
In two official WRC Generations gameplay videos, the professional rally drivers tackle stages in Sweden and Japan and experience WRC Generation’s enhanced driving physics.
In the first video, Solberg drives his Hyundai i20N Rally1 across a treacherous Rally Sweden stage, fighting for grip in the snow. For the 2022 WRC season, Rally Sweden is relocated to Umea, which features in WRC Generations.
The professional driver initially found it difficult to get to grips with WRC Generations’ reworked physics. “At first it was very difficult for me for the first time ever trying the game – it was quite different. But I think in general it’s a good step forward from the old game that I tried. The car looks very realistic and you could feel a little bit of the hybrid system.”
Rally Japan gameplay
The second WRC Generations gameplay video features Toyota Gazoo Racing driver Takamoto Katsuta tackling tight and twisty roads in Japan on a fully tarmac stage.
Immediately, Katsuta can feel the car’s hybrid system affecting the car’s performance. “It feels exactly like what we have now in the Rally1 car where you have hybrid boost and it gives you more power,” he said. “You need to be careful with opening the throttle otherwise you’re spinning a lot.”
WRC Generations introduces new hybrid Rally1 cars with potent hybrid powertrains. Before each stage, you can choose from three hybrid maps, matching the settings used by real rally drivers. Each hybrid map offers different balances between maximising power and preserving the battery depending on the stage.
Release date
WRC Generations will be released on 13 October for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. With 22 locations, 165 special stages, and 37 classic rally cars, WRC Generations will be the most comprehensive WRC game yet.
