One of F1 22’s most divisive new features was its driveable supercars. Inspired by the real-life Pirelli Hot Laps, F1 22 let you take Ferrari, Aston Martin, and McLaren supercars for a spin around Grand Prix circuits, completing drift and speed challenges.
You could also show off your swanky supercar collection to other players in F1 Life. Despite their negative reception, it looks like supercars will return in F1 23 and even expand.
New supercar teased for F1 23
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc has shared an Instagram post showing photos of him wearing a Ferrari-branded sweater while posing with his black Ferrari 488 Pista with a caption: “I like the sweater and I like the car. More to come @easportsf1.”
This is the first hint that supercars may return in this year's F1 title. Not only that, but the Ferrari 488 Pista could be a new driveable supercar in F1 23, expanding on F1 22's roster – the F8 Tributo and Roma were the only Ferrari road cars in F1 22. His Ferrari-branded sweater will also likely be a new clothing option in F1 23.
A track-focused variant of the regular 488 GTB, the Ferrari 488 Pista is powered by a 3.9-litre turbocharged V8 uprated to 710 horsepower. This power boost enables the Prancing Horse to sprint from 0-60 mph in a blistering 2.85 seconds.
Given that Codemasters has already modelled them for F1 22, it makes sense for supercars to return in F1 23 with an expanded roster. Let’s hope they handle better than they did in F1 22.
If Codemasters is trying to take on Gran Turismo, we're also hoping you can race them with friends and AI cars unlike in F1 22.
F1 23 release date
EA teased F1 23 earlier this month, but we're still waiting for this year’s F1 title to be announced. With the teaser campaign ramping up, F1 23 could be announced later this month or in early April.
As for the release date, we can expect F1 23 to arrive in late June or early July if Codemasters sticks to the same release schedule as previous years.
A Microsoft store listing seemingly confirms F1 23 will be released on the last-gen Xbox One and PS4 platforms as well as PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
As well as supercars, the Braking Point story mode is expected to return in F1 23. The new Losail International Circuit and Las Vegas Street Circuit are also joining the 2023 F1 season calendar, so we can look forward to racing around these new circuits in F1 23.
