F1 Mobile Shuts Down In 2024

On the eve of the new Formula 1 season, it’s not all good news for fans. F1 Mobile Racing, the official mobile F1 game, has shut down, with all live services now disabled. This news now raises questions about EA’s main F1 franchise, with players starting to ask if the series is at risk.

Racing on the go

For F1 fans wanting a quick race while on the morning commute, F1 Mobile Racing was the perfect game. Developed by Codemasters, the same studio behind the official F1 series, F1 Mobile Racing was a fully licensed racing title you could play on the go.

Featuring a full career mode, online multiplayer, and special events tying in with the real-world F1 calendar, F1 Mobile Racing wasn’t just a slimmed-down version of the F1 series. The game even allowed players to design their dream F1 car, upgrading parts as they progressed through the game.

Launching in October 2018, F1 Mobile Racing received regular updates to reflect the new F1 seasons. In news that will upset many, however, the brakes have finally been applied.

F1 Mobile shuts down in 2024

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the F1 Mobile account revealed the game has now been shut down. This was effective from 23 February, with the game delisted from both Google Play and the Apple App Store.

The post also announced that all in-app purchases have been disabled, with players having until 24 May to use up any in-game currency before the game becomes inaccessible.

The news feels sudden but isn’t a huge surprise. Recently, EA has been trimming their workforce, with both F1 Mobile Racing and EA Sports MLB Tap Sports both being axed. This does, however, raise questions about the future of the F1 series as a whole, but fans can relax.

EA has confirmed that the main F1 franchise remains unaffected by the end of F1 Mobile, with development still continuing on F1 24 and its successive entries in the series. Playtesting of F1 24 has seemingly already begun, with rumours swirling that the game may be arriving sooner than expected.

So it’s goodbye to F1 Mobile, but perhaps one day the F1 series will return to mobile for fans wanting a quick sprint around Monza on their way home from work. For now, though, Real Racing 3 is available for players wanting an F1 fix.
