The first trailer for the F1 movie has been released, showing fans what they have to look forward to in the film. Unveiled during the exhilarating British Grand Prix weekend, this is the first look we’ve been given at the Brad Pitt-led film before it launches next year.
Start your engines
F1 is the name of the highly-anticipated Formula 1 film. The movie stars Brad Pitt as a veteran racing driver brought out of retirement for one last crack at F1. The sport is heavily featured in the film, with teams, drivers, sponsors, and even team principals heavily involved in production.
Recent British Grand Prix winner Lewis Hamilton is a producer on the film, with his input ensuring the film represents the world of F1 as authentically as possible. His connections have also led to Mercedes building the F2 car used for APX GP, the fictional team Pitt’s character drives for.
The APX GP car looks amazing, either on its own out on track or lined up alongside the rest of the grid. The striking black and bronze stands out amongst the others, with real-world sponsors including Tommy Hilfiger and IWC adding to the authenticity.
The logo of EA Sports, publisher of Codemasters' F1 series, also takes pride in place on the nose of the car.
Both Pitt and costar Damson Idris have been seen in the car at various race weekends over the last couple of years, with footage captured for the film between sessions of the real F1 calendar. Silverstone has been used for multiple off-track scenes as well, with the British circuit featuring heavily in promotional material.
It’s therefore fitting that the first trailer was revealed during the 2024 British Grand Prix. Just before the lights went out on what turned out to be the standout race of the year so far, fans at the circuit were treated to their first look at F1.
First F1 trailer revealed
The trailer opens with Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, dejectedly discussing how Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, Aston Martin, and McLaren are beating APX GP in races. This quickly transitions to the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, with the APX GP pit wall focusing on the race at hand.
With Queen’s We Will Rock You pumping out in the background, this is where the action begins. Various shots of the APX cars spinning and crashing are interspersed with clips of the team’s garage, drivers mingling with the rest of the paddock, and other members of F1’s more popular figures.
Silverstone is seen a lot during the trailer, with the former airfield playing host to filming multiple times during production. Whether it’s Hayes getting up close to the tarmac, the APX car blasting down both the National and Hamilton straights or the car spinning off into the gravel, fans can easily identify the iconic British circuit in the background.
Monza and Spa are also shown, with the infamous climb up Eau Rouge and Raidillon showcased. Close-up shots of Pitt actually driving the car around each circuit highlight the high-octane action that the film will bring to the big screen.
There’s even a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo from former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner, still a popular figure in the F1 paddock missed by fans of Drive to Survive.
The trailer ends with an unbroken shot of Hayes charging around Silverstone with teammate, Idris’ Joshua Pierce, keeping him close company behind. This hints at a potential inter-team rivalry being shown in the film, possibly emulating the famous Vettel vs Webber clash Red Bull faced in 2013.
The trailer brings the best of F1 to the forefront, with the hype well and truly alive now fans have seen what the film has in store. Check out the full teaser trailer for F1 below:
