Forza Horizon 5: beginner's guide to Mexico's biggest festival

It doesn't matter if it's your first time at the Horizon festival or if you are a veteran of the franchise, arriving at a new Horizon festival leaves you with a lot to do.

What's the story?

The Horizon festival is a travelling cars-and-music event, arriving in Mexico at the start of this fifth game in the series. You're a superstar driver, turning up to win the races, promote the event, and reach the Horizon hall of fame.

Along the way, you'll take place in expeditions to find locations to expand the festival, as well as showcase events. Each expedition unlocks further races of a specific type. The showcases are four events where you race a car against a range of other vehicles.

How many cars are there to collect?

At the moment there are 526 cars you can buy or earn. As with Forza Horizon 4, we expect more cars will be added over the next couple of years.

The cars range from the 1920s to the present day. They provide the tools for any kind of driving you care to do across the Mexico map. The quickest way to earn cars is to complete the accolades that give you gifts. You can see these in the accolades list in the menu.

What is there to do in Forza Horizon 5?

Early game, you'll be focused on earning "accolades" to open the other festival sites and unlock all the races in the game. Once you've achieved this and reached the Hall of Fame, there's a weekly playlist of seasonal events to get stuck into and earn bonuses including free cars.

Playlist events are everything from winning particular races in a certain class of car to smashing cactuses or finding treasure chests. Each item in the playlist also contributes to the seasonal rewards, which are usually more free cars!

Players also find their own niche within Forza Horizon games. Some people like tuning cars, some painting them. Some players focus on drifting or racing or photography. With so much to do, developers Playground Games have made sure there are rewards for every type of activity within Forza Horizon 5.
