Virtual reality is one of the most exciting new technologies in the games industry. VR makes racing games more immersive while increasing the sense of speed and improving your driving thanks to the improved field of view. Gran Turismo Sport is compatible with the PlayStation VR headset, but does Gran Turismo 7 have VR?
Does Gran Turismo 7 have VR?
Unfortunately, GT7 does not have VR support at launch for PS4 or PS5. This could change, however.
Gran Turismo 7 could have PSVR 2 support
Earlier this year, Sony revealed the new PlayStation VR2 headset for the PlayStation 5. With a 4K resolution OLED screen, haptic feedback, and new Sense controllers offering increased interactivity, the PSVR 2 is shaping up to be an impressive piece of kit and revolutionise racing games. Sony still hasn’t shown it in action, however.
Currently, Horizon Call of the Mountain in development by Firesprite is the only game announced for PSVR 2. Sony hasn’t confirmed if GT7 will get PSVR 2 support, but we’re optimistic that it will.
As Sony’s flagship racing game for the PS5, GT7 would be a great showcase of the PSVR 2’s technology. Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has also expressed excitement for how VR technology is “very suited for a driving game” in an interview with GTPlanet.
If PSVR 2 support is planned for GT7, it will be added in a future update. GT Sport’s VR mode is also restricted to races against one opponent and time trials, so we’re hoping to see VR support expanded in GT7 with more modes and full car grid races.
Unfortunately, PSVR 2 doesn’t have a firm release date yet. Rumours suggest it will launch in early 2023, but nothing is confirmed yet. If so, this means we won’t be playing GT7 in VR this year unless the PS4 version is patched with PSVR support.
