GTA Online has seen nearly 8 years of consoles after its release in late 2013.
Now, it seems, GTA online is finally saying goodbye to one generation of console entirely at the end of this year, the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Let's take a look at the decision, and why Rockstar Games have made it, now!
GTA Online servers closing
Rockstar Games revealed the information on June 16, along with a confirmation that this will only be happening for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
This may be sad news for those players, but it makes sense as the company looks to the future with the release of the GTA V and Online enhanced versions for next-gen.
This will allow the team behind the game to focus on perfecting future updates and the gameplay experience for current-gen and last-gen PS4 and Xbox One.
When will they close?
Thankfully, Rockstar has given players on PS3 and Xbox 360 a full 6 months to try and find a more current console.
The servers will officially close on December 16 of this year, however, some features will be stopping earlier for other titles, such as:
- Website stat tracking, online multiplayer, and leaderboards for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Max Payne 3.
- Website stat tracking for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of L.A. Noire.
Additionally, Shark Cash Cards will no longer be on sale from September 16, as the team prepares to shut down the servers.
Don't worry too much, as this won't affect your access to GTA V Story Mode at all, as that is an offline experience that you can continue enjoying!
GTA Online Update
You can still get to grips with today's GTA Online update, and make full use of those final 6 months on GTA Online.
Today's update sees an awesome range of discounts and bonuses for players, although they are the same as last week's!
That means you can still get your hands on the Entity XF as the Podium Car, so get down to the casino. You can also check out the rest of the update's contents here!
