Sim racing can feel like a closed shop to PS5 or Xbox players, but what are the best sim racing games on console?
In recent years several realistic racing titles have either made the jump from PC to console or been developed with console players directly in mind.
Best sim racing games on console
We're looking for games that provide a realistic driving and racing experience.
From elite car physics and handling to good AI battles and multiplayer, the more we can get from these games the better.
Assetto Corsa
First released on PC in 2014, Assetto Corsa came to Xbox and PlayStation in 2016 and is still one of the most realistic driving simulators on console.
The Ultimate Edition arrived in 2018 and included every piece of previous DLC. This gives AC a huge amount of cars and tracks to go racing with.

You can take a Fiat 500 around a Highlands course or blast the Ferrari Formula One cars around the Nordschleife.
Featuring driving physics that is still among the best on any platform, you can get the base game for a snip on PlayStation and Xbox or the Ultimate Edition for a bit more but it is worth every penny.
Ride 4
If you're yearning for two wheels rather than four, then Ride 4 is the game for you.
Bike games are notoriously hard on new players, but Ride 4 offers a superb array of bikes and locations to go racing.

With fully dynamic weather and a complete day/night cycle in the game, you can get a true simulation feel.
There is also a revolutionary neural AI system that will provide more realistic and tricky competition even in offline modes.
Assetto Corsa Competizione
While AC offers a wide array of cars to go racing in, Assetto Corsa Competizione focuses on GT3 cars and delivers the best GT3 experience on any platform today.
With outstanding car models, handling, and physics you feel every bump of the track and rub with another car.

While lagging a little behind the PC version in terms of performance and updates, the console version of ACC is a standout for us, especially on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
It has a solid single-player career mode and a thriving league racing scene to really push you. With new DLC packs adding fresh cars and tracks, ACC is still a living, breathing game and one that Kunos will be supporting for a while longer.
DiRT Rally 2.0
If off-road racing is your thing, then DiRT Rally 2.0 is for you. Codemasters' 2019 release is still the outstanding rally title on any platform.
Much like bike games, rallying is not an easy skill to pick up, but DiRT Rally 2.0's physics are remarkable and with practice you will be flying through the trees.

There is currently a free trial of DiRT Rally 2.0 on the PlayStation Store, letting you give it a go before committing your money.
The Game of the Year Edition for DiRT Rally 2.0 contains a huge amount of content, as Codemasters supported the game with regular DLC over the years.
