How To Use The Scanner In Expeditions: A MudRunner Game

The expedition has begun in Expeditions: A MudRunner Game, with the scientific convoy starting the trek. In addition to climbing rocky mountains and traversing thick jungles, the game also tasks you with wading through large bodies of water.

You can use an echo-sounding scanner to stay out of deep water, but it’s not the easiest device to find. Our guide on how to use the echo-sounding scanner in Expeditions: A MudRunner Game will keep you treading water.

Avoiding the flood

Expeditions: A MudRunner Game challenges you to drive across a mix of terrain types. If you’re not climbing a rocky outcrop or charging through the jungle, you’re skirting the edge of a lake or even fording a river.

Water doesn’t mix well with engines, so driving through water should only be done as a last resort. But last resorts happen often in Expeditions: A MudRunner Game, so is there a way to check the depth of water before entering it?

As it so happens, yes there is. The echo-sounding scanner allows players to avoid the deepest water while still needing to get their tyres wet. Using the scanner isn’t the easiest, though, especially while on the move. Luckily, we have a useful guide.

How to use the scanner in Expeditions: A MudRunner Game

Like the winch, the echo-sounding scanner is included with every expedition, meaning you don’t need to spend any of your valuable resources to acquire it. You also access the scanner the same way as the winch, via the ‘devices’ menu.

The scanner is always located at the bottom of the devices menu, so it’s good to get into the habit of selecting it quickly just in case you need to rapidly check how deep the water is.

Before plunging into the biggest lake on the map, let’s take a quick look at how the scanner works. Each time you send out a ping, the scanner shows you how deep nearby water is. Green means you can safely wade through, while red means your vehicle will become flooded and stranded.

Any colour between green and red means it is possible to traverse the water, but there’s no guarantee you’ll emerge in one piece on the other side. Therefore, you'll want to stay in the green as much as you can.

The scanner also has a limited range, so you will need to keep pinging as you venture through any water. Be prepared to change your course just in case the return signal suddenly turns red.

Now, you can safely cross the water on your way to completing your next mission.
